Movimiento de Liberacion Nacional
The Movimiento de Liberacion Nacional (MLN) was founded in Chicago in 1977 initially to analyze attempts by the US government to crush the Puerto Rican independence movement, and to form a new political vehicle to resist this oppression. Their basis for unity was support for the armed struggle of the Puerto Rican People against US imperialism, and to fight for the freedom of all political prisoners and prisoners of war. Major issues addressed were mobilization against Grand Jury repression and the struggle to remove US Military from Vieques Island. Efforts to free prisoners of war were successful, namely in the Grand Jury inquiry of William Morales.
The collection includes a broad number of internal monographs, books and pamphlets. The paper collection includes numerous discussion and political analysis documents, an intense allegory of their struggle. The MLN holdings include sub-collections for their political organ, LIBERTAD, as well and their sub-committee, National Committee to Free Puerto Rican Political Prisoners and Prisoners of war.
