Without Apology: Reggae Free Mumia
Date: 1/1/1999Call Number: CD 316Format: CDProducers: Without Apology MusicCollection: Compact discs and videos representing digitized copies of analog tapes
Reggae Free Mumia Without Apology' is a special compila tion CD by a vast array of Reggae music recording artists from across the globe, specifically `livicating' their works to one of the most courageous African-American political prisoners, Mumia Abu-Jamal. This prominent radio journalist and political activist, is still on death row awaiting execution -or eventual exoneration- in view of the evidence of witness tampering and prosecutorial misconduct.
The lyrics and music contained on the "Free Mumia" CD represent an outcry for justice, peace and liberation, as delivered from a number of notable Rootz Reggae singers like Ras Shiloh ("Set Him Free"), Sister Carol ("Shackles") and Big Mountain ("Right To Live"). Everything from the Ska music of John Brown's Body, the Dancehall duo of Natty Remo & Cool Breeze, the "Liberation Dub" of Jah Warrior, to the heartfelt rootz Reggae rhythms of Jack Ruby's discovery -Foundation- and the Spanish Reggae group, The Revelations, can be found on this exciting album.
These rootz artists, like their Hip Hop/Rap counterparts, have come together, contributing their works in an effort to take a stand against corrupt politics that attempt to crush and suffocate the human spirit. Ultimately, the artists are trying to stop the execution of Mumia Abu-Jamal, who is currently incarcerated in Pennsylvania.
The liner notes of the CD includes the complete interview with Reggae legend Bob Marley, conducted by Mumia himself before his imprisonment. Proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated to Mumia's legal defense fund. For more updated information about Mumia Abu-Jamal, please visit www.mumia.org and/or www.walrus.com/~resist
