This collection features materials from a number of sources focusing on struggles revolving around gender and sexuality. These struggles are not separate from larger struggles for liberation but specifically incorporate unique voices and perspectives.

Women Against Imperialism was a grassroots, feminist, anti-imperialist solidarity organization formed in San Francisco in 1981. Women Against Imperialism’s work primarily consisted of direct action organizing and political education activities.

1989: the first news story, “Abortion goes to court in Canada” is about the latest attack on womyn’s rights in Quebec, Canada regarding a new anti- abortion law. the second story, “U.S womyn organized against Rape” covers the 11th annual National Coalition against Sexual Assault conference in Philadelphia. The third story discusses the leadership of African womyn in “response to disasters.” the fourth story is on a conference, the national assembly of religious women held, titled “risk and resistance in the south.” The fifth story is about the Israeli court of justice ruling that the homes of Palestinians can not be demolished. The last story on this segment, talks about corporate backers taking control of 3 womyn magazines such as MS and sassy.
Abortion interviews outside Midtown Hospital

This is a series of interviews with different people inside and outside of an abortion clinic in Atlanta, Georgia. The clinic is called Midtown Hospital and Judy Gerber begins her interviews inside with an abortion worker who has been at the hospital for the past nine years. She talks about how the pro-life protesters are not deterring women from getting abortions, they are just making a difficult decision more uncomfortable then it need be.
Next Judy goes outside and talks to a handful of pro-life and pro-choice people outside. The pro-life organization protesting outside are known as Operation Rescue. Underneath the interviews are Christian songs being sung loudly by Operation Rescue.
Many of the female pro-life protesters claim they are there because they had abortions when they were younger and now regret their decisions. Almost all of the pro-life people interviewed claim that if women knew what really happened to the fetus they may change their mind and blame the abortion clinics as spreading lies. Whereas, ironically, many of the pro-choice people interviewed claim that women have already made up their mind when they come to the clinic, and the pro-life protesters do not sway their decision, but rather they only make it more difficult to physically enter the clinic.

A Defiant Heart: Focus on Sodomy

In 1986, the U.S. Supreme Court had upheld Georgia state sodomy laws in the landmark case "Bowers vs. Hardwick". Recorded here is a mass demonstration against such laws. The demonstration takes place at the Georgia state capitol on the opening day of its 1990 state legislature. Groups represented ranged from the Aids Coalition To Unleash Power (ACT UP), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and the National Organization for Women (NOW) to religious groups to advocates for AIDS awareness, pro-choice, anti-racism, and anti-ableism. Speakers touched upon many subjects, from the importance of choice in and out of the bedroom, the danger of sodomy laws' silencing consequences in the face of the AIDS crisis to sodomy laws' place in the long-standing history of persecution in the U.S. and in the world. Many of the speeches featured are intended to rally the crowd and do not go into great depth.
Operation Rescue

This radio show discusses Operation Rescue and other antiabortion movements that utilize sometimes violent intimidation and harassment of abortion clinic workers and women coming into the clinics. It analyzes the shifting the argument focus from preserving the rights and well being of the woman to a moral issue of murdering a fetus. Includes interviews with religious activists who previously had abortions and concludes that the movement is really a way for white males to regain control over women.
