Judy Gerber speaks with Randy Fare from GLSTN (the gay and lesbian and straight teachers network) on the issue of LGBT education in schools. GLSTN pushes for LGBT education in schools and encourages schools to embrace difficult discussions instead of ignoring or marginalizing LGBT related issues. Randy says that in order to help the students they have to start by working with the teachers, for instance the Back To School campaign in which students write to their principals and tell them what it is like to be gay in school without LGBT themed education. GLSTN endeavors to have schools recognize that there is gay history, LGBT students are marginalized and there is a real need for open and honest discussions with teachers, students and administrators.
