The Akwesasne Notes
This collection contains editions of the Akwesasne Notes, a newspaper published by an indigenous group within the Mohawk Nation. The Akwesasne Notes frequently report on domestic and international issues of land rights, environmental justice, colonialism, and criminal justice; on top of this they feature the words of multi-generational activists and community members. Their self described philosophy is as follows: "Akwesasne Notes supports the efforts of people to re-investigate their own processes of survival - their culture. We are advocates of social justice processes which focus on reuniting people with their community and their land base, and which attempts to resist the exploitation of land, animal, water, and human beings." (Volume 16, Number 4). Taken collectively, the Akwesasne Notes paint a portrait of both the oppression and empowerment of indigenous people worldwide.
