[News] Vigil, but...the Prophet reminds us, praying is the least effective

On a day when so many of us have attended vigils for the slain in 
Christchurch, NZ, there are three things we need to remember.

One, we are standing on Chumash Land, just as this heinous massacre took 
place on Maori Land. To say that the 51 murdered is something new or 
extraordinary in New Zealand is to forget in the 1700s hundreds were 
killed in a day. And in the 1800s thousands were erased from life in a 
day. A Maori priest taught us that the correct name for the island 
nation is Ateroa or Land of the Long White Cloud. But she said now 
Ateroa has become New Zealand, Land of the Wrong White Crowd. Because 
New Zealand was created by colonial/imperialist endeavors it can never 
be free of atrocities. It is illogical for us to expect justice on 
stolen land.

The second thing we must remember is that the US government and her 
proxy kill West Asians and Muslims every day all day. In Africa daily 
destruction of land and life takes place in Somalia, Sudan, Libya. In 
West Asia Muslim lives are destroyed in Palestine, Syria, and let’s 
please remember the outsized genocide taking place in Yemen with the use 
of US intelligence, US personnel, US ordinance, US weaponry, etc.

Lastly, we should remember that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon his 
name) clearly told us that when we see evil, we must fix that evil with 
our hands. If we cannot fix it with our hands then we must speak out 
against it. If we cannot speak out against the evil then we must pray 
regarding that evil. But, the Prophet reminds us, praying is the least 
effective.
