  Israel to demolish 189 Palestinian homes in West Bank

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Head of the Palestinian Authority (PA) Committee 
against the Wall and Settlements, Walid Assaf, revealed on Tuesday that 
more than 189 Palestinian homes are threatened with demolition in the 
al-Walaja village, west of the southern occupied West Bank city of 
Bethlehem.

Assaf said, in an interview with Voice of Palestine radio station, that 
more than 189 Palestinian-owned homes are currently under threat of 
being demolished by Israel in the near future.

He confirmed that the recent 
<http://www.maannews.com/Content.aspx?id=780916> demolition campaigns 
carried out in al-Walaja by Israel, come within the framework of an 
illegal Israeli settlement plan to expand the southern borders of Jerusalem.

The plan would further expand the illegal Israeli settlement of Gush Etzion.

Assaf pointed out that on Monday night, tents and urgent relief were 
provided to Palestinian families, whose homes were demolished by Israel 
only several hours after receiving a prior notice or none at all.

He added that quick solutions need to be found or else a number of 
families will remain homeless.

Violent clashes had erupted on predawn Monday after two Palestinian 
homes, in the al-Walaja village, were demolished by Israel, under the 
pretext that they were built without the difficult-to-obtain Israeli 
building permits.
