El Ejército de Estados Unidos se propone utilizar nuevamente las
facilidades de la antigua base naval militar Roosevelt Roads (RR), en esta
ocasión  para entrenar a pilotos ucranianos.

Una fuente de credibilidad de CLARIDAD confirmó  que en una reunión con
personas relacionadas a diversas tareas en la base el director ejecutivo de
la Autoridad de Puertos de Puerto Rico (AP-PR) y de la Junta para el
Redesarrollo de RR,  Joel Pizá Batix, informó que se estaban preparando
para habilitar un centro de entrenamiento para pilotos ucranianos. La
reunión según nuestra fuente fue hace varias semanas.

El anuncio concuerda con declaraciones del asesor de Seguridad Nacional de
la Casa Blanca, Jake Sullivan, divulgadas el 21 de julio y recogida por
medios noticiosos de Europa de que las Fuerzas Armadas de Estados Unidos
comenzarán «en cuestión de semanas» a entrenar a pilotos ucranianos en el
manejo de aviones de combate modelo F-16.  (Leer más:

La base naval de Roosevelt Roads  cerró sus operaciones militares en el
2004, un año después de la salida de la marina de la isla de Vieques, tras
años de intensa lucha.

Un estudioso del Memorándum de Entendimiento firmado entre el Gobierno de
Puerto Rico y la Marina de Guerra de EE UU explicó que en dicho acuerdo se
estipula que Estados Unidos se reserva el derecho de reutilizar las
facilidades de la base cuando lo entienda necesario/o pertinente. Tampoco
tiene que pagar nada al gobierno de Puerto Rico por su uso.

La pista del aeropuerto de la antigua base es una de las mas extensa y
ancha del Caribe, en la cual puede tirarse cualquier tipo de aeronave
militar de EE UU.

CLARIDAD le cursó varias preguntas al director ejecutivo de la Autoridad de
Puertos, Pizá Batix, al cierre de esta edición no se había recibido
respuesta.

(RR) military naval base again, this time to train Ukrainian pilots.

A credible source from CLARIDAD confirmed that in a meeting with people

The Roosevelt Roads naval base closed its military operations in 2004, a
year after the navy's departure from the island of Vieques after years of
intense struggle (to drive the US military out of Vieques)

A scholar of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government
of Puerto Rico and the US Navy explained that said agreement stipulates
that the United States reserves the right to reuse the base's facilities
when it deems it necessary/or pertinent. They also do not have to pay
anything to the government of Puerto Rico for its use.

The airport runway of the old base is one of the longest and widest in the
Caribbean, where any type of US military aircraft can take off and land.

CLARIDAD asked several questions to the executive director of the Ports
Authority, Pizá Batix, at the close of this edition no response has been
received.
