Across Haiti, popular organizations are calling for the end of the
US-backed regime and the installation of a transitional government. Yet
the Biden Administration continues to insist on its choice of prime
minister, Ariel Henry, who has no mandate and no legitimacy.
In 1990 Haiti elected Aristide president, but Haiti’s military with US
collaboration overthrew him in 1991. He was re-elected in 2000, but was
overthrown again on February 29, 2004, when US military officials
kidnapped him and his family and flew them into forced exile in the
Central African Republic. A series of presidents elected through
fraudulent elections in which the Lavalas Party was not allowed to even
participate until 2015 (when it was cheated out of victory) have looted
Haiti’s resources and ruled through police and death squad terror. Now
the powers that be are trying to force new corrupt elections on a
devastated Haiti completely unequipped to hold a democratic election,
while the grassroots majority is calling for a
transitional government of honest and respected leaders who will work to
rebuild Haiti’s institutions before fair elections can be held.

In the few short years Aristide and the grassroots Lavalas movement held
power, they built more schools than had been built in they built more
schools than had been built in Haiti’s

history, along with health centers, housing, parks, and a hospital. The
Aristides returned to Haiti in 2011, and have focused on educating
Haiti’s next generation through the University of the Aristide
Foundation (UNIFA.)

As it attempts to thwart moves towards ending dictatorship in Haiti, the
Biden Administration has deported more than 20,000 Haitian refugees, in
one of the speediest mass deportations in US history. Having fled from
conditions produced by US policy in Haiti, they are now being sent back
into the US-created nightmare they fled.

*This is a time for all of us to stand in solidarity with Haiti.*
