NEOLIBERALISM AND SELF DETERMINATION Spring 2009 Tour

Community rights defense organizer and film
maker, Simon Sedillo offers perspectives on
global implications of the Oaxacan people’s
struggle for communities in the United States.
Through this multimedia presentation, Sedillo
helps open a powerful space for dialogue on the
effects of neoliberalism on indigenous
communities, immigrant communities, and
communities of color in the US and Mexico. This
presentation will also be done in Spanish on

ARM THE SPIRIT Book Launches with DIANA BLOCK
FREE

In June 1985, Diana Block, her two-week-old son,
and five companions fled Los Angeles after
finding a surveillance device in their car.
Facing the possibility of arrest because of her
militant activities in the struggle for Puerto
Rican independence, Diana spent the next decade
living underground: on the run from the FBI,
raising two children, and juggling security, solidarity, and motherhood.
Her new memoir offers insights into efforts to
build homegrown clandestine resistance to US
imperialism, and traces her political development
on either side of her period underground. ARM THE
SPIRIT offers a history of the culture and
politics of the 1960s and 1970s and an analysis
of the political terrain of the 1990s, when Diana
resurfaced and tried to reintegrate into a very
different world. Join us, either at the AK
warehouse or at Modern Times (or both!), for a reading and Q&A with the author.
