Chavez: Assassination of Venezuelans Will Not Go Unpunished

Caracas, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
stated here Sunday that the assassination of six Venezuelans by a
terrorist group will not remain unpunished, no matter who carried out
the cowardly ambush.

During the 204 broadcast of Aló presidente radio-television show, from
the Caracas community of Macarao, the Head of State stressed "we are
not going to tolerate anybody violating our territory"s sovereignty."

An irregular armed group attacked Saturday Petroleos de Venezuela
(PDVSA) commission, which has been prospecting oil in the northern
state of Apure, protected by an Army-National Guard combined patrol.

Engineer Ana Laura Carrasco, Army"s second lieutenant Carlos Perez
Fernandez, the military group"s commander, and other four soldiers
died in the attack.

The President highlighted that Venezuela will impede illegal groups to
establish in the country, regardless of their place of origin and
recalled the thousands of armed men operating in Colombia, along the
extensive and permeable mutual border.

Chavez said the Colombian internal conflict has given rise to illegal
armed groups, such as guerrillas, anti-guerrillas, paramilitaries,
drug traffickers, thieves and kidnappers.

He called on the Colombian government to be stricter in meeting its
responsibilities, adding that "we continue to witness official
statements, which simply seem irresponsible and manipulative," he
said.

Accordingly, he indicated, he has ordered the local armed forces to
deepen the patrolling system on water, ground and air, and try to look
for any clues leading to the assailants, who will be dealt with in a
convincingly manner.

He ratified the executive decision of declaring any Venezuelan bearing
arms without authorization an outlaw. "We don"t support them, we don"t
need them," he concluded.
