You CAN'T hold your convention in Philly and not address the case of
Mumia Abu-Jamal!!!

NAACP UPDATE: NAACP: WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON????

It is urgent that Mumia Abu-Jamal's case be addressed at the upcoming
NAACP convention here in Philly. Mumia's case has been attacked by
NAACP leadership in many ways including:

(1) Local Philadelphia NAACP Chairman, J. Wyatt Mondesire has promised
Pam Africa, the head of the worldwide Free Mumia movement that she
would
be able to speak about Mumia, only to withdraw his invitation at the
last moment.

(2) The NAACP has invited the District Attorney in Philly in 1982
(since Gov. & head of DNC), Eddie Rendell
<<http://www.youth4mumia.org/stopedrendell.html>http://www.youth4mumia.org/stopedrendell.html>,
who orchestrated and
led the political crusade against Mumia Abu-Jamal, "including
unconstitutionally using Mumia's Panther Party affiliation in the
sentencing phase" in which he requested the death penalty! Why not
invite George Bush?!

(3) Meanwhile the Ossining, NY NAACP has had it's resolution demanding
justice for Mumia squashed for over 2 years by bigwigs at the NAACP!

(4) Meanwhile, the same higher-up conference organizers have cancelled
the workshop on the death penalty!

All this while silencing the voice that is at the forefront of
attempting to avert that murder and speak truth to the case is silenced
at such an important event is intolerable! We are urging everyone who
reads this to please contact the NAACP and demand that Mumia's case be
on that platform!

Call J. Wyatt Mondesire, head of Philly NAACP. Call or email the
National Branch, headed by Kweisi Mfume. MJfume himself at one time
said that the case needed to be examined, so let him live up to his words.

PLEASE LET US HAVE A TOTAL, COMPLETE AND UNRELENTLESS ATTACK WITH THE
OBJECTIVE OF HAVING MUMIA'S CASE HEARD AT THE UPCOMING NAACP
CONVENTION!

DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER. MUMIA'S LIFE IS DEPENDING ON OUR
ACTIONS!!

THE NAACP HAS NOT YET JOINED MUMIA'S STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM!!

Award-winning Black journalist, author, and innocent man Mumia
Abu-Jamal has been unjustly imprisoned on Pennsylvania’s death row for over
twenty years. After a joke of a trial during which the prosecutor suborned
perjury, the police falsified evidence, and the judge himself promised
that he would help the D.A.’s office “fry the n---,” Mumia Abu-Jamal
was convicted and sentenced to death for allegedly killing a Philadelphia
cop. Since that time another man, Arnold Beverly, has come forward and
admitted that he did the deed. But true to their “fry Mumia plan,” the
courts have refused to consider Beverly’s confession.

Over the years many organizations and governmental bodies have
recognized the threat the authorities are making and have come to
Mumia’s defense. Among these groups are the Service Employees
International Union, the American Postal Workers Union, the
International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union, the Nation Black
Police Association, Amnesty International, the Congressional Black
Caucus, the European Parliament, the Japanese Diet (parliament), and
the cities of San Francisco and Paris, among many other cities in the
U.S.A. and France. Last year, Paris made Mumia an honorary citizen, the first
person to be so feted since Pablo Picasso in 1971.

Conspicuously absent from this illustrious list is the NAACP,
co-founded by the brilliant, outspoken, radical Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois, who
recognized
that Black people had to struggle against–not accommodate themselves
to–the racism of that day.

As this venerable organization meets in its national convention this
July right in Center City Philadelphia, we ask, why is the NAACP not
siding with one of the world’s most eloquent critics of racism and
injustice today? Why is the NAACP leadership blocking a resolution
supporting Mumia?

RALLY: SUNDAY JULY 11th
3:00 PM at the Pennsylvania Convention Center
1101 Arch Street, Philadelphia

Join us on July 11 in educating and lobbying the delegates to the NAACP
convention. Stay over in Philadelphia to continue the work on July 12.

PRESSURE MUST BE PUT ON THE NAACP! PLEASE CALL AND EMAIL THEIR NATIONAL
HEADQUARTERS DEMANDING THEIR IMMEDIATE SUPPORT FOR MUMIA!
