</b>It is urgent that Mumia Abu-Jamal's case be addressed at the upcoming
<br>
NAACP convention here in Philly. Mumia's case has been attacked by <br>
NAACP leadership in many ways including:<br><br>
(1) Local Philadelphia NAACP Chairman, J. Wyatt Mondesire has promised
<br>
Pam Africa, the head of the worldwide Free Mumia movement that she <br>
would <br>
be able to speak about Mumia, only to withdraw his invitation at the
<br>
last moment.<br><br>
(2) The NAACP has invited the District Attorney in Philly in 1982 <br>
(since Gov. & head of DNC), Eddie Rendell <br>
<</font><a href="http://www.youth4mumia.org/stopedrendell.html"><font face="Times New Roman, Times" size=3 color="#003399">http://www.youth4mumia.org/stopedrendell.html</a></font><font face="Times New Roman, Times" size=3>>,
who orchestrated and <br>
led the political crusade against Mumia Abu-Jamal, "including <br>
unconstitutionally using Mumia's Panther Party affiliation in the <br>
sentencing phase" in which he requested the death penalty! Why not
<br>
invite George Bush?!<br><br>
(3) Meanwhile the Ossining, NY NAACP has had it's resolution demanding
<br>
justice for Mumia squashed for over 2 years by bigwigs at the
NAACP!<br><br>
(4) Meanwhile, the same higher-up conference organizers have cancelled
<br>
the workshop on the death penalty!<br><br>
All this while silencing the voice that is at the forefront of <br>
attempting to avert that murder and speak truth to the case is silenced
<br>
at such an important event is intolerable! We are urging everyone who
<br>
reads this to please contact the NAACP and demand that Mumia's case be
<br>
on that platform!<br><br>

said that the case needed to be examined, so let him live up to his

THE NAACP HAS NOT YET JOINED MUMIA'S STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM!!<br><br>
Award-winning Black journalist, author, and innocent man Mumia <br>
Abu-Jamal has been unjustly imprisoned on Pennsylvania’s death row for
over <br>
twenty years. After a joke of a trial during which the prosecutor
suborned <br>
perjury, the police falsified evidence, and the judge himself promised
<br>
that he would help the D.A.’s office “fry the n---,” Mumia Abu-Jamal
<br>
was convicted and sentenced to death for allegedly killing a Philadelphia
<br>
cop. Since that time another man, Arnold Beverly, has come forward and
<br>
admitted that he did the deed. But true to their “fry Mumia plan,” the
<br>
courts have refused to consider Beverly’s confession.<br><br>
Over the years many organizations and governmental bodies have <br>
recognized the threat the authorities are making and have come to <br>
Mumia’s defense. Among these groups are the Service Employees <br>
International Union, the American Postal Workers Union, the <br>
International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union, the Nation Black
<br>
Police Association, Amnesty International, the Congressional Black <br>
Caucus, the European Parliament, the Japanese Diet (parliament), and
<br>
the cities of San Francisco and Paris, among many other cities in the
<br>
U.S.A. and France. Last year, Paris made Mumia an honorary citizen, the
first <br>
person to be so feted since Pablo Picasso in 1971.<br><br>
Conspicuously absent from this illustrious list is the NAACP, <br>
co-founded by the brilliant, outspoken, radical Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois, who
recognized <br>
that Black people had to struggle against–not accommodate themselves
<br>
to–the racism of that day.<br><br>
As this venerable organization meets in its national convention this
<br>
July right in Center City Philadelphia, we ask, why is the NAACP not
<br>
siding with one of the world’s most eloquent critics of racism and <br>
injustice today? Why is the NAACP leadership blocking a resolution <br>
supporting Mumia?<br><br>
