Space
Marilyn Buck
[This poem is read by Akwasi Evans.]
Today I would like to be in space
free-floating
not in a damned no-space
space ship
I already live in a no-space
place
a 5:00 bus
feet in the aisle
we careen off
each other
bang into beds
Aii yee!
I need some space!
nothing personal
but my person
is drifting
trying to get away
from this space
to breathe and swim
in the deep green pool
of my imagination
bubbles wait
to break the surface
in a dizzy explosion
into galaxies
and the universe
