<p>The Hamas Movement on Saturday denounced Israel\u2019s decision to
introduce new weapons into its prisons, describing the move as a
\u201cdangerous and systematic escalation\u201d against defenseless Palestinian
detainees who are already subjected to some of the harshest violations
inside occupation jails.</p>
<p>In a statement, Hamas said that the use of stun guns, rubber bullets,
and treating prisoners as \u201ctesting fields\u201d represents a full-fledged
crime that exposes the aggressive and fascist mentality of the
occupation.</p>
<p>The Movement warned that this \u201ccriminal decision\u201d threatens
prisoners\u2019 lives with both direct and slow death, in flagrant violation
of international law and human rights conventions.</p>
<p>Hamas held Israel fully responsible for the safety of the detainees
and called on international human rights institutions to urgently
intervene, hold Israel accountable, and put an end to its continuous
crimes against Palestinian prisoners.</p>

<p>Echoing Hamas\u2019s position, Palestinian prisoner institutions confirmed
that Israeli authorities have already introduced new weapons into
prisons, including electric shock devices, rubber bullets, and plans to
equip repression units with Shotgun rifles that fire special ammunition
designed to cause serious injuries.</p>
<p>The institutions described this step as \u201can unprecedented escalation\u201d
reflecting Israel\u2019s systematic policy of targeting the very human
fabric of prisoners. They stressed that using Palestinian detainees as
\u201ctesting grounds\u201d for such weapons constitutes a grave breach of
international law.</p>
<p class="gmail-has-vivid-cyan-blue-color gmail-has-text-color gmail-has-link-color gmail-wp-elements-25b6440f86113782814b366787415621">A compounded crime</p>
<p>This escalation comes at a time when prisoners are already facing
what human rights groups describe as a \u201ccompounded crime\u201d in Israeli
jails, marked by starvation, torture, medical neglect, and slow
killings.</p>
<p>According to updated figures, as of early August 2025, Israel
classified 2,378 detainees from Gaza as \u201cunlawful combatants.\u201d
Meanwhile, at least 77 prisoners have died under Israeli custody since
the beginning of the genocide, including 46 from Gaza whose identities
have been confirmed by prisoner support organizations.</p>
<p>The total number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israeli
jails has now exceeded 11,000, the highest since the outbreak of the
Second Intifada in 2000. Most are administrative detainees and
individuals awaiting trial, not including those held in military camps
run by the Israeli occupation army.</p>
