received a letter from Jaan Laaman, and he has some
positive news to share:

"October 22, 2017

... So now let me share some good news with you.
Last Wednesday, during a walk thru in seg, I saw my
unit manager, Ms. Bowers. She told me she had been
on the phone with DC, specifically the CTU
(Counter-Terrorism Unit) of the BOP and she was
informed that I would not be sent to CMU!

Well, I'm still in seg - actually it was 7 months in
seg yesterday. And Bowers did tell me I would be put
in for a transfer to another US pen.

I'm sure that the hundreds of (prison radio) post
cards and the many letters sent to various BOP
officials were a big reason they finally decided to
back off this CMU transfer. Also, a few weeks ago,
my NLG attorney Paul Gattone filed a legal action
against the BOP Director and this prison to stop my
transfer to CMU. Just about 2 weeks ago, the judge
accepted the case, and in fact had the prison
telephoned to ask if they were planning to move me.
He stated he was inclined to issue a temporary
injunction. I have no doubt this legal action also
had an impact on the BOP decision not to ship me.

... So now I'm opening my mind to other plans,
including my first parole hearing in November of
2018. ... I am concerned about my ongoing safety in
terms of any transfer process. I'm not worried about
safety here, but in transit it is not hard for SIS
(security branch) or other cops to reach out and set
up some kind of attack, so I'm asking people to keep
this in mind.

... Of course, I am very appreciative of all the
people and groups who have stepped up to support me.

Freedom is a constant struggle!
