</a> president says he doesn't consider Lori Berenson a threat to Peru

and isn't ruling out commuting the New Yorker's accomplice-to-terrorism

sentence so she can go home.<br><br>

A court returned the 40-year-old Berenson to prison last month after

prosecutors objected to her May parole after 15 years in prison. They

called her a danger to society.<br><br>

President Alan Garcia says in a CNN interview that while he understands

many Peruvians feel Berenson should complete her 20-year prison term he

feels for Berenson and her 16-month-old son.<br><br>

Garcia says in the interview broadcast Tuesday night that factors

including U.S. public opinion must be weighed in the case.<br><br>

But he did not say when he might issue a decision on

commutation.<br><br>
