“Visita” federal a independentistas<br>
Entrevistados denuncian que recibieron trato hostil de los agentes del

Varios independentistas denunciaron que agentes del Negociado Federal de
Investigaciones (FBI) intervinieron con ellos de manera “hostil y
provocadora” cuando salían ayer de sus residencias en San Juan, Yauco,
Peñuelas, Bayamón, Guaynabo y San Juan.<br>

“A Miguel Viqueira y a Tania Delgado los tratan de entrevistar en torno a
actividades como independentistas” y les preguntaron si sabían de
acciones de Los Macheteros, dijo el abogado Alvin Couto.<br>
<br>
Añadió que agentes del FBI también visitaron a Papo Castillo, un presunto
ex miembro de Los Macheteros, para decirle que tenían “conocimiento” de
un presunto plan para matarlo, dato que surgió de las investigaciones
federales y que por ley tienen que revelar.<br>
<br>
“Entendemos que es una invención de las agencias federales. Ninguna
organización patriótica va a atentar contra otros. Esto sigue la política
de crear chismes y rumores para crear desasosiego e incertidumbre” entre
grupos independentistas, sostuvo Couto.<br>

El portavoz de prensa del FBI, Harry Rodríguez, confirmó que efectivos de
esa agencia visitaron las casas de varias personas para entrevistarlas,
pero declinó identificarlas por nombre y decir qué tipo de investigación
realizan.<br>

“Los entrevistamos porque entendemos que esas personas pueden tener
información sobre investigaciones que están en curso”, dijo Rodríguez.

Indicó que nadie fue arrestado, que las personas pueden pedir la
presencia de sus abogados y negarse a hablar.<br>
<br>
Rodríguez agregó que la denuncia que hicieron las personas entrevidas de
que fueron tratados con hostilidad es una “percepción” de ellos. En el
caso de Viqueira, Couto dijo que éste le dijo a los agentes del FBI que
no tenía “nada que hablar con ustedes” y “les preguntó si tenían una
orden de arresto”.<br>

Several independentistas denounced as “hostile and provocative” the
Federal Bureau of Investigations interventions with them as they left
their homes yesterday in San Juan, Yauco, Peñuelas, Bayamón, Guaynabo and
San Juan [sic].<br>

“They tried to interview Miguel Viqueira and Tania Delgado about their
activities as independentistas,” and they asked they if they knew about
Machetero actions,” said attorney Alvin Couto.<br>
<br>
He added that FBI agents also visited Papo Castillo, an alleged ex member
of The Macheteros, to tell him they had “information” about a purported
plan to kill him, a fact that emerged from the federal investigations and
which by law they had to reveal.<br>
<br>
“We understand this to be an invention of the federal agencies. No
patriotic organization is going to attack others. This continues their
policy of creating rumor and gossip to create anxiety and uncertainty”
among independentista groups, maintained Couto.<br>
<br>
FBI press spokesperson Harry Rodríguez, confirmed that FBI agents visited
the homes of several people to interview them, but he refused to identify
them by name or to say what type of investigation they were
conducting.<br>

“We interviewed them because we understand that these people may have
information about investigations which are under way,” said
Rodríguez.<br>
<br>
He stated that no one was arrested, that people can ask for their
attorneys to be present and refuse to talk.<br>
<br>
Rodríguez added that the repudiation made by those approached, that they
were treated with hostility, is their “perception.” As for Viqueira,
Couto said that he told the FBI agents he had “nothing to talk about with
you,” and “he asked if they had an arrest warrant.”<br>
