La investigación del Departamento de Justicia sobre la muerte de
Filiberto Ojeda Ríos a manos de efectivos del Negociado Federal de
Investigaciones (FBI), el 23 de septiembre de 2005, concluyó que fue
falsa la versión que ofreció al Inspector General de Estados Unidos el
agente federal que disparó el tiro letal .<br>

Tras más de dos años de investigación, el secretario de Justicia, Roberto
Sánchez Ramos, dio a conocer hoy el informe final de la pesquisa, la que
dio por terminada.<br>
<br>
“La versión del agente del FBI no es creíble”, dijo Sánchez Ramos en una
conferencia de prensa en la que estuvo acompañado por fiscales e
investigadores del Instituto de Ciencias Forense (ICF).<br>
<br>
Hasta el nombre con el que se identificó el agente del FBI, “Bryan”, es
falso. <br>
<br>
Una de las versiones que dio este agente fue que él pudo ver a Ojeda Ríos
con un arma desde el lugar donde estaba ubicado en los predios de la casa
del líder de los Macheteros en Hormigueros. <br>
<br>
Pero, eso es falso, según la pesquisa.<br>
<br>
Sánchez Ramos y el resto de expertos aseguraron que todas las pruebas de
sangre, de balística y de campo, entre otras, apuntan a que es
“imposible” que este agente pudiera ver a Ojeda Ríos a través de las
ventanas con un arma desde donde estaba ubicado. <br>
<br>
Hay varios factores para haber llegado a esta conclusión, entre ellas la
hora del operativo, que fue de noche.<br>
<br>
Se explicó, además, que si en efecto este agente del FBI no vio a Ojeda
Ríos con un arma como concluyó la investigación de Justicia, que sería
lo que justificaría el uso de fuerza letal, estaría violando los propios
reglamentos del FBI que lo prohíben.<br>

Culminada la investigación sobre la muerte de Ojeda Ríos, el Secretario
de Justicia admitió que no se puede procesar a nadie en la esfera estatal
porque toda la evidencia está en manos de las autoridades federales y
éstas se niegan a entregarla.<br>

The investigation of the Department of Justice into the death of
Filiberto Ojeda Ríos at the hands of agents of the Federal Bureau of
Investigations (FBI) September 23, 2005, concluded that the federal agent
who fired the lethal shot offered a false story to the Inspector General
of the United States. <br>
<br>
After more than two years of investigation, Attorney General Roberto
Sánchez Ramos announced today the final investigation report, which he
said was terminated.<br>
<br>
“The FBI agent’s version is not credible,” said Sánchez Ramos at a press
conference at which he was accompanied by prosecutors and investigators
of the Institute of Forensic Sciences (IFS).<br>
<br>
Even the name with which the FBI agent was identified, “Bryan,” is
false.<br>
<br>
One of the stories this agent gave was that he could see Ojeda Ríos with
a weapon, from the place he was located on the grounds of home of the
Macheteros leader in Hormigueros.<br>
<br>
But that is false, according to the investigation.<br>
<br>
Sánchez Ramos and the rest of the experts assured that all the tests of
blood, ballistics and the field, among others, point to the
“impossibility” that the agent could have seen Ojeda Ríos with a weapon
through the windows from where he was located.<br>
<br>
Several factors led to this conclusion, including the hour of the
operation, which was at night.<br>
<br>
It was also explained that if in fact this FBI agent did not see Ojeda
Ríos with a weapon as the Justice Department’s investigation concluded
which would be what would justify the use of deadly force, it would be
violating the FBI’s own rules which prohibit it.<br>
<br>
With the culmination of the investigation into the death of Ojeda Ríos,
the Attorney General admitted that he cannot prosecute anyone in Puerto
Rico courts because all the evidence is in the hands of federal
authorities, and they refuse to disclose it. <br><br>
