Repudiaran citaciones de independentistas en Nueva York<br>

MAYAGUEZ — Diversas organizaciones separatistas protestarán el viernes
en diferentes puntos de Puerto Rico en repudio a la nueva citacion de
tres independentistas a un gran jurado en Nueva York que investiga al
Ejercito Popular Boricua-Los Macheteros.<br><br>
Tania Frontera, artista plastica; Christopher Torres, trabajador social,
y Julio Pabon, quien tambien esta ligado a las artes, fueron citados el
11 de enero para ser interrogados, pero su comparecencia se pospuso para
el 1 de febrero.<br><br>
Miguel Gonzalez, de la organizacion independentista La Nueva Escuela,
senala que junto al Movimiento Independentista Nacional Hostosiano (MINH)
y el Partido Independentista Puertorriqueno (PIP) haran manifestaciones
en el centro comercial Plaza del Caribe en Ponce, en Plaza Las Americas
en Hato Rey y frente al Recinto de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en
Mayaguez.<br><br>
"Si fuera necesario, vamos a establecer un campamento contra el FBI,
de manera que cese el hostigamiento contra los independentistas",
dijo Gonzalez en una conferencia de prensa junto a otros
dirigentes.<br><br>
Las manifestaciones comenzaran a las 6:00 de la manana y se haran bajo el
lema "Despierta boricua: defiende a los tuyos".<br><br>
De acuerdo con Gonzalez, en Nueva York tambien habra
manifestaciones.<br><br>
Encabezadas por el denominado "One-Eleven Grand Jury
Resistance", una coalicion de puertorriquenos, artistas y activistas
independentistas repudiaran en la ciudad estadounidense las citaciones de
los tres jovenes independentistas al gran jurado.<br><br>
Gonzalez indica que las manifestaciones "tienen el proposito de
educar al pueblo sobre lo que significa el FBI y el gran jurado,
organizaciones que durante 70 anos han estado persiguiendo al liderato
independentista, tanto en la isla como en los Estados
Unidos".<br><br>
El profesor del Recinto Universitario de Mayaguez no descarta que las
demostraciones en la isla formen parte del inicio de un movimiento de
desobediencia civil en Puerto Rico contra el FBI.<br><br>
Por su parte, el candidato del PIP a la alcaldÃa de Mayaguez, Javier
Muniz, destaca la unidad que debe prevalecer entre las agrupaciones que
abogan por la soberana de la isla.<br><br>
"Aqua no hay independentistas buenos ni malos. Aqua lo que hay son
independentistas que creemos en distintas formas de lucha y tenemos que
tener en mente que nos va la vida si no mantenemos la unidad",
dijo.<br>

Protest subpoenas of independentists in New York<br><br>

MAYAGUEZ — Various separatist organizations will protest Friday at
different points in Puerto Rico in repudiation of the new subpoena of
three independentists to a grand jury in New York investigating the
Popular Boricua Army–Macheteros.<br><br>
Tania Frontera, artist; Christopher Torres, social worker, and Julio
Pabon, also tied to the arts, <br>
were subpoenaed for January 11 to be interrogated, but their appearance
was postponed to February 1.<br><br>
Miguel Gonzalez, of the independentist organization The New School,
indicated that together with the National Hostos Independence Movement
and the Puerto Rican Independence Party, they will demonstrate at Plaza
del Caribe mall in Ponce, in Plaza Las Americas in Hato Rey, and in front
of the University of Puerto Rico campus in Mayaguez.<br><br>
"If necessary, we will set up a camp against the FBI, to move them
to stop the harassment of independentists," said Gonzalez at a press
conference with other leaders.<br><br>
The demonstrations, to begin at 6:00 a.m., will use the slogan "Wake
up boricua, defend your own."<br><br>
According to Gonzalez, there will also be demonstrations in New
York.<br><br>
Led by the Puerto Rican coalition "One-Eleven Grand Jury
Resistance," artists and independence activists in New York will
repudiate the grand jury subpoenas of the three young
independentists.<br><br>
Gonzalez stated that the demonstrations "are intended to educate the
public about what the FBI and the grand jury mean, as organizations which
for 70 years have been persecuting the leadership of the independence
movement, on the island as well as in the United States."<br><br>
Gonzalez, a professor at the University of Puerto Rico's Mayaguez campus,
did not discard the possibility that the demonstrations in Puerto Rico
may initiate a civil disobedience movement against the FBI.<br><br>
The Puerto Rican Independence Party's candidate for mayor of Mayaguez,
Javier Muniz, pointed out that unity should prevail among the groups
advocating for sovereignly for the island.<br><br>
"Here, there are not good or bad independentists. What there are are
independentists who believe in different forms of struggle, and we must
keep in mind that we will be crushed if we do not maintain unity,"
he said.<br><br>
