marcha <br>
la pesquisa de las autoridades federales contra independentistas
<br>
relacionados con el Ejército Popular Boricua - Los Macheteros.<br>
Norberto Cintrón Fiallo, quien no enfrenta acusaciones por el <br>
allanamiento del 10 de febrero de 2006 a su morada, dijo ayer que
<br>
agentes federales intervinieron en diciembre con un joven de <br>
apellido Dilán en su casa y oficina y que en noviembre lo hicieron
<br>
con el biólogo marino Roberto Viqueira.<br><br>
Añadió que un gran jurado de Nueva York entrevistará este mes a
<br>
tres independentistas sobre "una persona que se alega es
machetero" <br>
y que saben de al menos otra persona a quien agentes federales le
<br>
ofrecieron $5,000 para que sirviera de informante.<br><br>
En su caso, dijo: "Ellos continúan por el vecindario, en los
<br>
alrededores, usted ve a agentes en guaguas estacionadas mirando con
<br>
binoculares, están tratando de amedrentarnos, pero lo único que van
<br>
a hacer es gastar en gasolina". Cintrón Fiallo preside la
<br>
Coordinadora Caribeña Latinoamericana de Puerto Rico.<br><br>
Contrario al reclamo de los independentistas de que las <br>
intervenciones son parte de un plan de represión, el director del
<br>
Negociado Federal de Investigaciones (FBI), Luis Fraticelli, <br>
aseguró ayer que la pesquisa no tiene nada que ver con la <br>
independencia de Puerto Rico. "Es una investigación continua",
dijo <br>
Fraticelli. "Se trata de una organización que siempre ha
proclamado <br>
la lucha armada para lograr sus objetivos", expresó sobre Los
<br>
Macheteros.<br><br>
"La principal prioridad del FBI es prevenir futuros ataques
<br>
terroristas, ciertamente le doy el tiempo necesario a esa <br>
investigación, por eso es una prioridad constante", añadió.<br><br>
Fraticelli no quiso estimar cuánto más podría tardar la pesquisa a
<br>
Los Macheteros ni dar detalles sobre los frutos de los <br>
allanamientos del 10 de febrero de 2006.<br><br>
"Hay cosas que no esperaba", afirmó.<br><br>
En entrevista radial, Fraticelli dijo que los resultados de los
<br>
allanamientos, donde agredieron a periodistas, o que muriera el
<br>
fundador de Los Macheteros, Filiberto Ojeda Ríos, en el operativo
<br>
en su casa del 23 de septiembre de 2005, no fueron errores. Explicó
<br>
que fueron incidentes inesperados y reiteró que el fin no era dar
<br>
muerte a Ojeda Ríos y que la intervención con los periodistas fue
<br>
el producto de una falta de diálogo. "Nuestro interés era
capturar <br>
al señor Ojeda vivo", señaló.<br><br>
En contraste con lo que expresó Fraticelli, dos representantes del
<br>
sector independentista, Julio Muriente y Héctor Pesquera, del <br>
Movimiento Independentista Nacional Hostosiano, dijeron que no se
<br>
trata de una mera investigación, sino de un intento de represión de
<br>
los federales al independentismo.<br><br>
Para Muriente es evidente que no encontraron nada durante los <br>
allanamientos del 10 de febrero de 2006. "Si una fuerza
policiaca <br>
allana un lugar es porque espera encontrar evidencia contundente.
<br>
¿Cómo se explica que hayan pasado dos años y no haya pasado nada?
<br>
Porque no hay evidencia", dijo.<br><br>
Citaciones recientes<br><br>
Las intervenciones más recientes incluyen las citaciones para el 11
<br>
de enero a un gran jurado de Nueva York a los independentistas
<br>
Christopher Torres, Tania Frontera y Julio Antonio Pabón. Hace unas
<br>
semanas, agentes federales supuestamente detuvieron al biólogo
<br>
marino Viqueira en la calle y le quitaron su agenda y el celular.<br>
Pesquera entiende que incluso el robo en septiembre en su casa es
<br>
parte de ese intento vano de buscar evidencia.<br><br>
A él le robaron cuatro computadoras portátiles, celulares y dos
<br>
cámaras, sin llevarse dinero o prendas.<br><br>
En ese mismo periodo, ocurrieron robos de computadoras en las <br>
oficinas y residencias de otros independentistas, entre ellos el ex
<br>
presidente y la ex vicepresidenta del Colegio de Abogados, Carlos
<br>
Mondríguez y Wilma Reverón, y del presidente de la Unión Americana
<br>
de Libertades Civiles (ACLU), William Ramírez. "Pueden ser
<br>
casualidades, ¡pero qué muchas casualidades!", dijo Pesquera.

federal <br>
authorities’ investigation of independentists related to the <br>
Popular Boricua Army—The Macheteros moves forward.<br><br>
Norberto Cintrón Fiallo, who was never charged with anything as a
<br>
result of the February 10, 2006, search of his home, said yesterday
<br>
that in December, federal agents stopped a young man whose last
<br>
name is Dilán in his home and office, and that in November they did
<br>
the same to the marine biologist Roberto Viqueira.<br><br>
He added that this month a grand jury in New York is to hear from
<br>
three independentists about "a person alleged to be a
Machetero" <br>
and that they know of at least one other person who federal agents
<br>
offered $5,000 to act as their informant.<br><br>
As for his case, he said, "They are still around the
neighborhood, <br>
in the area, you see agents in parked vans looking through <br>
binoculars, trying to intimidate us, but the only thing they’re
<br>
going to do is waste gasoline." Cintrón Fiallo directs the
<br>
Caribbean Latin American Coordinating Committee of Puerto Rico.<br>
Contrary to the claims of independentists that the interventions
<br>
are part of a plan of repression, the director of the FBI, Luis
<br>
Fraticelli, assured yesterday that the investigation has nothing to
<br>
do with the independence of Puerto Rico. "It’s an ongoing
<br>
investigation," said Fraticelli. "It’s about an organization
that <br>
has always proclaimed armed struggle to achieve its objectives,"
he <br>
expressed about The Macheteros.<br><br>
"The FBI’s main priority is to prevent future terrorist attacks.
I <br>
will certainly give the necessary time to this investigation, as it
<br>
is a constant priority," he added.<br><br>
Fraticelli didn’t want to guess how much longer the investigation
<br>
of The Macheteros will last, or to give details about the results
<br>
of the February 10, 2006 searches.<br><br>
"There are things we didn’t expect," he affirmed.<br><br>
In a radio interview, Fraticelli said that the results of the <br>
searches, where journalists were assaulted, or where the founder of
<br>
The Macheteros, Filiberto Ojeda Ríos, died in the September 23,
<br>
2005, assault of his home, were not errors. He explained that they
<br>
were unexpected incidents and reiterated that the purpose was not
<br>
to kill Ojeda Ríos, and that the intervention with the journalists
<br>
was the product of a lack of dialogue. "Our interest was to
capture <br>
Mr. Ojeda alive," he indicated.<br><br>
In contrast to what Fraticelli expressed, two representative of the
<br>
independentist sector, Julio Muriente and Héctor Pesquera, of the
<br>
National Hostos Independentist Movement, said that this isn’t about
<br>
just a simple investigation, but rather the federal government’s
<br>
attempt to repress independentism.<br><br>
To Muriente it’s evident that they didn’t find anything during the
<br>
February 10, 2006 searches. "If a police force searches a
place, <br>
it’s because they hope to find conclusive evidence. How can you
<br>
explain that two years have gone by and nothing has happened? <br>
Because there was no evidence," he said.<br><br>
Recent subpoenas<br><br>
The most recent interventions include subpoenas to a grand jury in
<br>
New York for January 11 of independentists Christopher Torres,
<br>
Tania Frontera and Julio Antonio Pabón. Several weeks ago, federal
<br>
agents supposedly detained marine biologist Viqueira in the street,
<br>
taking his calendar and cell phone.<br><br>
Pesquera believes that the September robbery in his home is part of
<br>
this futile attempt to seek evidence.<br><br>
Four laptops, cell phones and two cameras were stolen from him, but
<br>
money and jewelry were left untouched.<br><br>
During this same period, computers were stolen from the offices and
<br>
homes of other independentists, including the ex president and ex
<br>
vice president of the Bar Association, Carlos Mondríguez y Wilma
<br>
Reverón, and the chair of the American Civil Liberties Union <br>
(ACLU), William Ramírez. "They could be coincidences, but this
is <br>
really a lot of coincidences!" said Pesquera. "They are looking
for <br>
information they don’t have. This is a fishing expedition to <br>
justify the unjustifiable: the assassination Filiberto Ojeda
Ríos".<br><br>
