Once again the government has added new charges of deportability

against<br>

long-time lawful permanent residents Khader Hamide and Michel

Shehadeh.<br><br>

The latest charges, filed last week by Immigration and Customs

Enforcement<br>

(ICE), are brought under the recently passed REAL ID Act and allege

that<br>

Hamide and Shehadeh are members of the PFLP. Like the PATRIOT charges,

these<br>

are charges that didn't exist at the time Hamide and Shehadeh were<br>

organizing fundraisers for humanitarian organizations in the Middle

East.<br>

These latest charges make "membership" a deportable offense,

bringing this<br>

18-year old case back where it started. In 1987, the LA 8 were charged

with<br>

advocating world communism, based on their political associations.

Congress<br>

ultimately repealed that provision of law after several federal courts

found<br>

it violated the Constitution.<br><br>
