Kalima Aswad's memorial is this coming Saturday, June 8th, at 4pm at
Geoffrey's Inner Circle, 410 14th St., Oakland (near 12th St. BART).

Many people have met Kalima Aswad during the past four years since his
release from prison four years ago. Before that, he was in California's
state prisons for 46 years. He started out on death row, was politicized
by the San Quentin Six and became a leader in the Black prisoners
movement of the 1970s. He was editor of Arm The Spirit, a major prisoner
journal that was distributed to prisoners across the country in the
1970s. He became a religious Muslim and a leader in the prisoner
education movement. He was released in 2015 after going before the
parole board 25 times. His life was an example of fierce determination
and insistence in the ability of people to tranform.

Kalima died in early April. He will be remembered at a memorial on
Saturday, June 8th, in Oakland.
