Dear Friends,

In response to the historic peaceful hunger strike in which over
30,000 incarcerated people in California prisons protested torturous
conditions of long-term isolation last year, the hunger strike was
suspended on day 60 as legislators committed to investigate and work to
end such inhumane conditions. As a result, the Public Safety Committee
will host a second joint legislative hearing on *Tuesday, February 11,
2014* in Sacramento.

*Yet the most important voices will be absent from the hearing*:
testimony from the prisoners. Though prisoners have testified at past
legislative hearings, the California Department of Corrections (CDCR)
has refused to allow prisoners to attend and testify at the upcoming
February 11th hearing.

Contact CDCR officials today to urge them to allow the prisoners’ voices
at the hearing, using the sample email NRCAT has prepared

Additionally, we encourage you to attend the February 11th hearing and
lobby visits in Sacramento.

The voices of those calling for an end to torture in California's
prisons must not be silenced.

Contact the CDCR today using the sample email NRCAT has prepared.
