Grupos independentistas anuncian manifestación

Organizaciones del movimiento independentista en la Isla
anunciaron, ayer, una manifestación en repudio a la citación de
tres jóvenes independentistas a comparecer ante el Gran Jurado en
Nueva York.

La protesta, donde participarán sobre 20 organizaciones, se
celebrará el próximo jueves 10 de enero a las 5:00 p.m. frente al
Tribunal federal en Hato Rey con la consigna "Ante la represión,
unidad y lucha". El viernes 11 de enero organizaciones en Estados
Unidos realizarán manifestaciones en Nueva York, Filadelfia,
Boston, Cleveland, Los Angeles, San Francisco y Orlando.

"Es evidente que si bien es cierto que es una investigación contra
el Ejército Popular Boricua Los Macheteros, confirma que es una
investigación producto de una campaña de represión contra los
movimientos independentistas", dijo el coordinador de la
manifestación, Michael González.

Asimismo, el copresidente del Movimiento Independentista Nacional
Hostosiano (MINH), Julio Muriente, insistió en que la citación de
estos jóvenes tiene la intención de atentar contra el movimiento
independentista y el pueblo de Puerto Rico. Destacó que es un
atentado contra un "movimiento político, social y patriótico".

Por su parte, el comisionado electoral del Partido Independentista
Puertorriqueño (PIP), Juan Dalmau, indicó que no hay duda de que se
trata de otra ofensiva antiindependentista por parte del FBI para
tratar de demostrar que el movimiento independentista es uno
terrorista.

"Solidaridad y apoyo a los compañeros que están siendo hostigado y
que están siendo arrinconados por parte del Gobierno de Estados
Unidos. Nosotros participaremos de la manifestación y allí haremos
una movilización de nuestra militancia precisamente para manifestar
este apoyo", expresó Dalmau.

Las organizaciones indicaron que la postura que mantendrán con el
FBI es de no colaboración por lo que le han dejado saber a los tres
jóvenes que no den información, identifiquen personas y presenten
evidencia.

Los tres jóvenes citados son Christopher Torres, Tania Fronteras y
Julio Antonio Pabón. Torres, quien es un trabajador social de 31
años graduado del Hunter Collage, ha trabajado brindando ayuda a
deambulantes y buscando hogar para niños y niñas que no tienen
padres. Fronteras nació y se crió en Puerto Rico y es una
diseñadora gráfica de 30 años graduada de New York University.
Pabón, por su parte, trabaja como cineasta para una empresa europea
de películas y vídeos.

Independentist Groups Announce Demonstration

Independentist movement organizations on the Island announced
yesterday a demonstration in repudiation of the subpoenas of three
young independentists to appear before the Grand Jury in New York.

The protest, where over 20 organizations will participate, will
take place next Thursday, January 20, at 5:00 p.m. in front of the
federal court in Hato Rey, with the slogan, “In the face of
repression, unity and struggle.” Friday, January 11, organizations
in the United States will convene demonstrations in New York,
Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland, Los Angeles, San Francisco and
Orlando.

“It’s evident that if indeed it is true that this is an
investigation of the Popular Boricua Army­Macheteros, it confirms
that it’s a product of a campaign of repression against
independence movements,” said Michael González, coordinator of the
demonstration.

In the same vain, Julio Muriente, co-chair of the National Hostos
Independentist Movement (MINH), insisted that the subpoena of these
three young people is intended as an attack on the independence
movement and the people of Puerto Rico, pointing out that it is an
attack on “a political, social, patriotic movement.”

Juan Dalmau, electoral commissioner of the Puerto Rican
Independence Party (PIP), stated that there is no doubt that this
is about another anti-independentist offensive by the FBI to try to
demonstrate that the independence movement is a terrorist movement.

“Solidarity and support for the compañeros who are being harassed
and cornered by the government of the United States. We will
participate in the demonstration and will mobilize our membership
to show this support,” expressed Dalmau.

The organizations indicated that they will maintain the posture of
non-collaboration with the FBI, which they have communicated to the
three youth, of refusing to give information, identify others, or
provide evidence.

The three young people cited are Christopher Torres, Tania
Fronteras and Julio Antonio Pabón. Torres, a 31 year old social
worker and graduate of Hunter College, has worked providing support
to homeless people and seeking homes for orphans. Fronteras was
born and raised in Puerto Rico and is a 30 year old graphic
designer and graduate of New York University. Pabón works as a
filmmaker for a European film and video business.
