Protestarán frente a Tribunal federal
El grupo "La Mesa de Solidaridad" realizará la
manifestación el sábado contra la "represión" de las autoridades federales.

En conmemoración del vigésimotercer aniversario
del arresto de 12 macheteros por parte del
Negociado Federal de Investigaciones (FBI, por
sus siglas en inglés), la organización "La Mesa
de Solidaridad" efectuará una manifestación
contra la "represión" de las autoridades el
sábado a la 1:00 p.m. frente al Tribunal federal en el Viejo San Juan.
Precisamente el 30 de de agosto de 1985, figuras
ligadas al Ejército Popular Boricua fueron
arrestados en relación con el robo de $7.2
millones a un camión de la compañía Wells Fargo
en un atraco ocurrido dos años antes en el estado de Connecticut.
Entre los acusados se encontraba el líder
machetero Filiberto Ojeda Ríos y el abogado independentista, Jorge Farinacci.
En la actividad, explicó esta mañana la portavoz
del grupo, Liliana Laboy, también se recordarán
puertorriqueños que, según el sector
independentista, han sido encarcelados por
defender sus ideales. Entre estos figuran Haydee
Beltrán, Carlos Alberto Torres y Oscar López,
quienes han pasado más de 25 años en cárceles estadounidenses.
También incluyen en el grupo a Avelino González
Claudio, quien participara en el robo de la Wells
Fargo y fuera detenido el año pasado.
De igual forma, se hará una mención especial a
tres jóvenes independentistas residentes en Nueva
York: Tania Frontera, Christopher Torres y Elliot
Monteverde, quienes han sido citados a comparecer
ante un Gran Jurado en al ciudad neoyorquina de
Brooklyn. Todos se han negado a colaborar con el Gran Jurado.
"Esto es una convocatoria abierta a todo el que
se sienta agredido e indignado por las
actuaciones ilegales de las autoridades
federales", dijo Laboy, quien señaló que si bien
se les dará la bienvenida a integrantes de
organizaciones independentistas, "sigue siendo una actividad independentista".
El evento se convoca mientras integrantes de los
dos partidos mayoritarios del país, el Partido
Popular Democrático (PPD) y el Partido Nuevo
Progresista (PNP) son objeto de investigaciones o
proceso judiciales iniciados por el gobierno federal.
Tan reciente como el sábado, el senador
novoprogresista Jorge De Castro Font fue objeto
de allanamientos en su oficina legislativa y en
su residencia. El veterano legislador ha
manifestado que el FBI sólo hacía su trabajo.
En el caso del PPD, el reclamo oficialista de la
colectividad va dirigido hacia una supuesta
persecución política por parte de fiscalía
federal hacia el gobernador Aníbal Acevedo Vilá.
"No tienen derecho a hostigar a Aníbal Acevedo
Vilá ni a De Castro Font, que le ha servido toda
la vida a los yanquis", dijo el ex prisionero
político nacionalista Rafael Cancel Miranda.
Laboy indicó que en el caso de los jóvenes
puertorriqueños en Brooklyn, la fiscalía federal
ha activado el recurso del Gran Jurado consciente
que la posición histórica ha sido la de no
colaboración. Frontera, Torres y Monteverde se
exponen a ser arrestados de no cooperar con esta
institución, que Laboy describió como "antidemocrática".
"No tienes representación legal", dijo Laboy.
La independentista, quien fue objeto de un
allanamiento en su residencia ubicada en el
edificio De Diego 444 en Río Piedras, mencionó
los casos de otros independentistas en la Isla
que han recibido acercamientos de miembros del FBI.
Entre estos se encuentran la abogada Tania
Delgado, el maestro Miguel Viqueira y el biólogo
marino Roberto Viqueira, todos integrantes de la
organización comunitaria Colectivo La Nueva Escuela.
Ninguno ha sido acusado de delito
Ante el señalamiento de que los resultados
electorales de los pasados 60 años en Puerto Rico
validan la presencia federal en el país y las
operaciones de los organismos de ley y orden del
gobierno federal, Cancel Miranda cuestionó la validez del sufragio emitido.
"Para votar libremente hay que ser libre. Votan
bajo una ocupación militar y el gobierno federal
controla a los medios. Aquí no hay una votación libre", dijo Cancel Miranda.
"Están aquí por asalto a mano armada .Los delincuentes son ellos".

In commemoration of the 23rd anniversary of the
arrest of 12 Macheteros by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI), the organization “Table of
Solidarity” will conduct a demonstration against
“repression” by authorities on Saturday at 1:00
p.m. across from the federal court in Old San Juan.
On precisely August 30, 1985, figures linked to
the Boricua Popular Army were arrested for the
robbery of $7.2 million from a Wells Fargo truck
in a holdup which took place two years earlier in the state of Connecticut.
Among the accused were Machetero leader Filiberto
Ojeda Ríos and independentista attorney Jorge Farinacci.
The group’s spokesperson Liliana Laboy also
explained this morning that the activity will
remember Puerto Ricans who, according to the
independentista sector, have been imprisoned for
defending their ideals. Among them figure Haydee
Beltrán, Carlos Alberto Torres and Oscar López,
who have spent more than 25 years in U.S. prisons.
They also include in the group Avelino González
Claudio, who participated in the Wells Fargo
robbery and was arrested last year [sic].
There will also be special mention of three young
independentistas who live in New York: Tania
Frontera, Christopher Torres [sic] and Elliot
Monteverde [sic], who have been subpoenaed to
appear before a Grand Jury in the New York city
of Brooklyn. All have refused to collaborate with the Grand Jury.
“This is a call open to all those who feel
attacked and indignant by the illegal conduct of
the federal authorities,” said Laboy, who stated
that while they welcome members of
independentista organizations, “this will
continue to be an independentista activity.”
The event is being convened while members of the
two majority parties in the country, the Popular
Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Progressive
Party (NPP) are the subject of investigations or
prosecutions initiated by the federal government.
As recently as Saturday, statehood party senator
Jorge de Castro Font’s legislative office and
home were searched. The veteran legislator has
stated that the FBI was only doing its work.
In the case of the PDP, the official line of the
party claims there is a supposed political
persecution on the part of federal prosecutors
against governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá.
“They don’t have the right to harass Aníbal
Acevedo Vilá or De Castro Font, who have served
the yankis for their entire lives,” said former
Nationalist political prisoner Rafael Cancel Miranda.
Laboy indicated that in the case of the young
Puerto Ricans in Brooklyn, the federal
prosecution has activated the resource of the
Grand Jury, conscious that the historical
position has been one of non collaboration.
Frontera, Torres [sic] and Monteverde expose
themselves to arrest if they don’t cooperate with
this institution, which Laboy described as “anti democratic.”
“They don’t have legal representation,” said Laboy.
The independentista, who was the subject of a
search of her home, located in the building at
444 De Diego in Río Piedras, mentioned the cases
of other independentistas in the Island who have
been approached by members of the FBI.
Among them are attorney Tania Delgado, teacher
Miguel Viqueira and marine biologist Roberto
Viqueira, all of them members of the community
organization The New School Collective.
None has been accused of a crime.
In response to arguments that the electoral
results of the past 60 years in Puerto Rico
validate the federal presence in the country and
the operations of the organisms of law and order
of the federal government, Cancel Miranda
questioned the validity of the votes cast.
“To vote freely, one must be free. They voted
under a military occupation, with a federal
government controlling the media. Here there is
no free voting,” said Cancel Miranda.
“They are here because they militarily invaded. They are the criminals.”
