FBI ACUDE A CASAS DE INDEPENDENTISTAS

Agentes del FBI acudieron hoy a la residencia de 
varios independentistas en busca de información 
relacionada con investigaciones en curso.

Harry Rodríguez, portavoz del FBI en San Juan, 
confirmó que "en la mañana de hoy el FBI estaba 
haciendo unas entrevistas en diferentes municipios de Puerto Rico".

"No era un operativo como se está difundiendo en 
los medios. Unas de nuestras técnicas 
investigativas más utilizadas y productivas es 
entrevistar a personas que pueden tener 
información sobre investigaciones que están en 
curso", añadió en entrevista con Prensa Asociada.

La organización independentista La Nueva Escuela, 
que desarrolla trabajo político en residenciales y
comunidades pobres de la Isla, denunció que el 
FBI llegó a la casa de dos de sus miembros la mañana del jueves.

"Este es un acto más de la nueva modalidad 
represiva del gobierno de los Estados Unidos 
contra los luchadores por la independencia de 
Puerto Rico. Sus acciones están dirigidas a 
provocar incidentes para tener el pretexto de 
ejecutarlos", advirtió la organización en 
referencia a la muerte de un tiro federal del 
líder machetero Filiberto Ojeda Ríos en 2005.

La Nueva Escuela identificó a los intervenidos 
como Miguel Viqueira y Tania Delgado Soto.
"Cuando Miguel se disponía a salir para su 
trabajo, varios agentes armados y con chalecos 
blindados identificados con las siglas del FBI lo 
rodearon y en una actitud hostil y provocadora 
comenzaron a amenazarlo", señaló en el parte de prensa.

"Aunque Miguel les dijo que no tenía nada que 
hablar con ellos y trataba de cerrar la puerta de 
su automóvil para marcharse, no lo dejaban y 
seguían insultándolo y amenazándolo. Después de 
un rato se marcharon sin mostrar ninguna orden 
judicial para la intervención", relató La Nueva Escuela.

En el caso de Delgado Soto, empleada de Fomento 
Cooperativo, manifestó que fue intervenida por 
dos hombres y una mujer del FBI en una van blanca.

"Ante la negativa de acceder al requerimiento de 
los agentes para que cooperara, y ella insistir 
en llamar a su abogado, estos se marcharon", añadí la organización.

Héctor Pesquera, copresidente del Movimiento 
Independentista Nacional Hostosiano (MINH), confirmó ambas intervenciones.

A su juicio, los federales "están hostigando al 
movimiento independentista en el afán de seguir 
dando el mensaje de que aquí mandan ellos y que esto es una colonia".

Edgardo Delgado Bras, padre de Tania, dijo que su 
hija de 29 años lo llamó para contarle lo sucedido.
"Esto es un patrón, que no es aislado, para 
amedrentar a los que creemos en la 
independencia", dijo Delgado Bras, también abogado.

El portavoz del FBI precisó que intervinieron con 
personas en Yauco, Peñuelas, Bayamón, Guaynabo y 
San Juan. Ninguna fue arrestada.

Rodríguez rehusó comentar si las entrevistas 
tienen relación con la supuesta evidencia 
encontrada en la residencia de Ojeda Ríos, a 
quien el FBI mató durante un operativo para arrestarlo en septiembre de 2005.
Tampoco quiso identificar a los entrevistados o 
confirmar los nombres en poder de Prensa Asociada.

A juicio de La Nueva Escuela, las intervenciones 
del jueves son "provocaciones del FBI" .

"La consigna es de no dejarse intimidar, no 
contestar preguntas, mantenerse en silencio, 
llamar a su abogado tan pronto puedan y no caer 
en la provocación. Todo acto de persecución por 
las agencias represivas de los Estados Unidos 
debe ser denunciado inmediatamente", añadió la organización.

Ojeda Ríos, uno de los alegados arquitectos del 
robo de 7.1 millones de dólares de un deposito de 
dinero de la compañía Wells Fargo en Hartford, 
Connecticut, en 1983, estuvo prófugo 15 anos 
antes de que el FBI lo matara durante un 
operativo par arrestarlo en su residencia en Hormigueros.

FBI agents went today to the homes of several 
independentistas seeking information related to investigations under way.

Harry Rodríguez, spokesperson for the FBI in San 
Juan, confirmed that “this morning the FBI was 
conducting some interviews in different cities in Puerto Rico.”

“It wasn’t an operation as the media is 
reporting. Some of our most utilized and 
productive investigative techniques are 
interviews of people who may have information 
about investigations which are under way,” he 
added in an interview with Associated Press.

The independentista organization The New School, 
which develops political work in public housing 
and poor communities across the Island, denounced 
the FBI’s going to the home of two of its members on Thursday morning.

“This is another act in the new repressive 
modality of the United States government against 
those who struggle for the independence of Puerto 
Rico. Their actions are intended to provoke 
incidents to create a pretext to execute them,” 
warned the organization, in reference to the 
FBI’s shooting death of Machetero leader Filiberto Ojeda Ríos in 2005.

The New School identified those intervened as 
Miguel Viqueira and Tania Delgado Soto. “When 
Miguel was preparing to leave for work, several 
agents, armed and with bullet proof vests bearing 
the FBI initials, surrounded him and with a 
hostile and provocative attitude began to threaten him,” said a press release.

“Although Miguel told them he had nothing to say 
to them and tried to close the door of his car to 
leave, they did not allow him to do so and 
continued insulting and threatening him. After a 
while they left without showing any judicial 
order for the intervention,” the New School reported.

As for Delgado Soto, who is an employee of 
Cooperative Development, two men and a woman from 
the FBI in a white van stopped her.

“When she refused to accede to their demand that 
she cooperate, and when she insisted on calling 
her lawyers, they left,” the organization added.

Héctor Pesquera, co-chair of the National Hostos 
Independence Movement (MINH), confirmed both interventions.

 From his perspective, the FBI “is harassing the 
independence movement in its zeal to keep sending 
the message that they rule, and that this is a colony.”

Edgardo Delgado Bras, Tania’s father, said his 29 
year old daughter called him to tell him what happened.

“This is a pattern; it’s not isolated, to 
intimidate those of us who believe in 
independence,” said Delgado Bras, also an attorney.

The FBI spokesperson specified that they 
intervened with people in Yauco, Peñuelas, 
Bayamón, Guaynabo and San Juan. No one was arrested.

Rodríguez refused to comment on whether the 
interviews are related to the alleged evidence 
found in the home of Ojeda Ríos, who the FBI 
killed during an operation to arrest him in September of 2005.

He also declined to identify those interviewed or 
to confirm the names Associated Press knew about.

 From the perspective of The New School, 
Thursday’s interventions are “FBI provocations.”
“The watchword is: don’t allow yourself to be 
intimidated, don’t answer questions, keep silent, 
call a lawyer as soon as you can, and don’t be 
provoked. Every act of persecution by repressive 
agencies of the United States should be 
immediately denounced,” added the organization.

Ojeda Ríos, one of the alleged architects of the 
robbery of 7.1 million dollars of a Wells Fargo 
depot in Hartford, Connecticut in 1983 was a 
fugitive for 15 years before the FBI killed him 
during an operation to arrest him at his home in Hormigueros.
