Official Transcript of the May 17 Hearings Before the 3rd Circuit Court of
Appeals re Mumia Abu-Jamal

Posted on September 11, 2007. This is the official transcript of the
important May 17 court hearing for Mumia Abu-Jamal in Philadelphia. To
preserve its integrity, it has been posted in PDF format. It should be
a powerful weapon for all those who are struggling for a just outcome
in this extraordinarily important case. The two audio files of the
hearing, which was taped, are also on this website (see entry for July
30).

"Racism and Injustice: The Trials of Mumia Abu-Jamal"

Posted on September 10, 2007. This is Margaret Prescod’s August 7,
2007 “Sojourner Truth” Program on the Case of Mumia Abu-Jamal. Created
by Margaret Prescod for her KPFK series “Sojourner Truth,” his program
has been aired by now by many stations and networks. It was aired for
the first time by WBAI’s “Wake-Up Call” on August 1 and 2 at 6 PM, and
then on August 7 by KPFK. It is also prominently featured by Radio
Pacifica (see www.pacifica.org). It is prefaced by actor and prominent
Abu-Jamal supporter Danny Glover (0:55 to 5:10) and introduced by
Margaret Prescod herself (5:25 to 7:20). A core part is Prescod’s
interview with Mumia Abu-Jamal’s lead attorney Robert R. Bryan (7:50
to 18:17). The book author and specialist on the case Dave Lindorff
(Killing Time. An Investigation into the Death Row Case of Mumia
Abu-Jamal) then gives his views for another five minutes (18:18 to
23:10), followed by the British activist Niki Adams (23:10 to 26:25)
and French activist Claude Guillaumaud-Pujol (26:25 Claude to 28:54).
Abu-Jamal’s long-time friend Linn Washington then gives historical
relief to the current struggle over Mumia Abu-Jamal (29:17 to 38:10),
after which the German researcher Michael Schiffmann is given the
opportunity to talk about his book Race Against Death and particularly
about his discovery of hitherto unknown photographs documenting police
manipulation of the crime scene where Abu-Jamal was arrested as a
murder suspect in December 1981 (38:10 to 44:16). But appropriately,
the longest stretch of the program is devoted to an interview with
Mumia himself which he gave during one of the rare only four 115
minutes telephone calls per month he is allowed from death row (45:00
to 58:22). The program ends with final words by Prescod and “freedom
music” (58:22 to 59:40), whereas the second half of this audio file is
devoted to something not altogether unrelated, namely the wake of
Hurricane Katrina: “Drowning on Dry Land.”

Mumia Abu-Jamal: "We Are Fighting for a New Trial"

Posted on September 10, 2007. In July 2007, Margaret Prescod conducted
interviews with Mumia Abu-Jamal lead attorney Robert R. Bryan, veteran
Philadelphia journalist Linn Washington, book author Dave Lindorff,
and others. These interviews took place in the wake of the important
May 2007 court hearings on the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal. The series of
interviews is concluded by a rare interview with the death row inmate
himself: Mumia talks about how he survives on death row, the punitive
and repressive trend in America's criminal justice system, and his own
demand for a new trial. This file is an illustrated transcript of that
interview.
