DOHA, (PIC)

Ezzat al-Resheq, a member of the Political Bureau of the
Hamas Movement, expressed regret over Palestinian Authority
President Mahmoud Abbas’s condemnation of the resistance
during his speech at the high-level international conference
on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the
implementation of the two-state solution, held in New York
last Monday night.

“It is regrettable that President Mahmoud Abbas, in his
address, condemned the struggle and resistance of his own
people against one of the most brutal occupations in history.
His remarks align with the fascist occupation’s demands to
disarm the resistance, at a time when the occupation and its
settlers are wreaking havoc in towns and villages across the
occupied West Bank, and waging the most destructive war of
extermination against our people in Gaza,” al-Resheq said.

Commenting on Abbas’s rejection of any role for Hamas in
governing Gaza, al-Resheq said, “This position reflects an
unacceptable submission to external pressure and dictates. It
deviates from the foundations of internal national relations
and the outcomes of national dialogue rounds and signed
agreements. It is also a violation of the Palestinian people’s
free will to determine their leadership and governance.”

“These disappointing stances come as President Abbas is being
denied access to the UN General Assembly in New York, while
the occupation clearly rejects the establishment of a
Palestinian state and moves forward with plans to dismantle
the Palestinian Authority, reoccupy Gaza, annex the West Bank,
and Judaize Jerusalem.”

Al-Resheq emphasized that “our Palestinian people expect the
leadership of the Authority to adopt serious national
positions that break away from the formulas the occupation is
trying to impose. At the forefront of this is rejecting
foreign dictates and halting security coordination with the
occupation, and moving toward national unity to confront the
fascist occupation, until we achieve our people’s aspirations
for freedom, dignity, and the establishment of a Palestinian
state with Jerusalem as its capital.”

Abbas’s speech at the Two-State Solution Conference sparked
widespread controversy, with many describing it as “shocking.”
Critics pointed to his congratulations to Israel on its
holidays while it wages a genocidal war against the
Palestinian people and his attack on resistance factions.
