<h1>Addameer condemns the wide arrest campaign in Hebron and demands
the United Nations to provide security for civilians

closely following the arrest campaigns, raids and mass detention by the
Israeli Occupying Forces (IOF) in Hebron following the death of an
Occupation soldier.</span></div>

<div dir="rtl" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="ltr">A number of
eyewitnesses reported to the Documentation Unit at Addameer that about
5,000 soldiers have been deployed in Hebron city in the following
areas: Al Sahla, Wadi Al Nasara, Jabal Johar, Tarik Bin Ziyad School
and the surrounding area and have been conducting raids and arrests
that continue until this moment. </span></div>

<div dir="rtl" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="ltr">The witnesses
added that the IOF has raided homes, and have patrolled the streets in
Hebron with megaphones, demanding that all residents over the age of 18
years to report to the main squares. The IOF made them put their hands
above their heads and sit in stressful positions in parallel lines,
then shackled their hands behind their backs and interrogated them.</span></div>

<div dir="rtl" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="ltr">The witnesses
estimated the over 1,000 people were subjected to this treatment,
including children and elderly community members. According to human
rights researchers, the IOF are also conducting a random arrest
campaign that has resulted in the arrest of eighty people. </span></div>

<div dir="rtl" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="ltr">Addameer also
learned that a number of civil society institutions were also raided
including the Union of Health Work Committees, where staff members were
held hostage inside the office for hours. </span></div>

<div dir="rtl" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="ltr">Addameer
condemns this revengeful campaign and calls for the International
Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations to activate their
role as protectors of civilians living under occupation as provided in
articles (4),(13), (27), and (47) of the Fourth Geneva Convention.<br>

For Killing Israeli Soldier <br>

Two Palestinian armed resistance groups issued a joint statement
claiming responsibility for killing an Israeli soldier in the southern
West Bank city of Hebron.
<p class="article">The two groups, the Al-Aqsa Brigades - ٍSpecial
Units, and The Ahrar Al-Jaleel Brigades (Freemen of the Galilee
Brigades), distributed their statement through social media websites. <br>
<br>
They said that their fighters managed shoot and kill an Israeli
soldier, using a sniper rifle, killing him instantly as he stood along
with other soldiers near the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. <br>
<br>
It is worth mentioning that the Al-Aqsa Brigades, once an armed wing of
the Fateh movement of president Mahmoud Abbas, was dismantled by the
Palestinian Authority, and some of its members became Palestinian
security officers. <br>
<br>
The soldier was initially seriously injured when he was shot in the
neck by a Palestinian sharpshooter, close to the Ibrahimi mosque in
Hebron. He died of his wounds shortly afterwards. <br>
<br>
Following the shooting, the army initiated a search campaign in Hebron,
and detained hundreds of Palestinians before releasing most of them
later on. <br>
<br>
The soldier is the second to be killed in the West Bank in 48 hours, as
on Friday a soldier was killed in Qalqilia, in the northern part of the
West Bank. <br>
<br>
Israeli Defense Minister, Moshe Yaalon, stated in a twitter message
that the army will act “swiftly and firmly” against what he called
“terrorists who try to harm Israelis”.<br>
<br>
His statement came following a meeting with senior Israeli military and
security officers in Tel Aviv.<br>
<br>
One Palestinian was killed by Israeli army fire last week, and at least
four, including three children, were injured in at least 49 invasions
carried out by the army in the occupied territories. <br>
<br>
Two Palestinians have been killed, and dozens have been injured, by
Israeli army fire, while hundreds were kidnapped since the beginning of
the month. </p>
