Clay Street, two blocks from 12th Street, Oakland City Center BART

<font face="Verdana" size=3>The weekly vigil to end the U.S. occupation
of Iraq will have an additional focus on August 12, to mark the one year
anniversary of the disappearance of Haitian human rights hero Lovinsky
Pierre-Antoine, who is presumed kidnapped after meeting with a US human
rights delegation on August 12, 2007. This anniversary will be
commemorated in Haiti and elsewhere around the world. <br><br>

you to participate in a fast on this day, for however many hours you are
able.<br><br>

<font face="Verdana" size=3><b>Biographical information for Lovinsky
Pierre-Antoine:<br><br>
</b></font> <br>
<font face="Verdana" size=3>Lovinsky is a member of Fanmi Lavalas, the
party of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who was forced into exile
after a coup led by the United States, France, and Canada on February 29,
2004. He's a founding member of Fondasyon Trant Septanm (September 30th
Foundation), an organization founded by family members and others
concerned about the victims of the 1991 coup (the first against President
Aristide), and named for the date of that coup. Similar to the work of
internationally renowned Mothers of the Disappeared in Central and South
America, the September 30th Foundation for over a decade held weekly
vigils demanding justice for victims of human rights violations and the
release of political prisoners. <br><br>

<font face="Verdana" size=3>Lovinsky is also the co-founder of Fondasyon
Kore Timoun Yo (Foundation for the Support of Children), for young street
children in Port-au-Prince, FAM (Foyer pour Adolescentes Mères), a center
for teenage mothers, and Map Viv ("I Live"), a program designed
to give medical and psychological aid to the victims (many from torture)
of the 1991 coup. <br><br>

<font face="Verdana" size=3>Lovinsky is a psychologist, a father, a
husband, an uncle, and a member of an extended family; a soft-spoken man
of great compassion with a big heart and a sense of humor. He is an
extraordinary grassroots leader and a fierce activist who stands with his
people in the streets. Members of the Haiti Action Committee last
witnessed him demonstrating, speaking and leading chants in front of the
UN military complex in Port-au-Prince during the 92nd anniversary of the
1915 US Marine Invasion of Haiti in July, 2007. He has visited the Bay
Area on several occasions.<br><br>
