<i>The National Lawyers Guild-San Francisco presents a summer film
series & benefit at El Rio’s outdoor patio. On July 14, come
see Of Civil Wrongs and Rights: the Fred Korematsu Story</i>, a film
about Fred Korematsu, an American who resisted, and then challenged in
court, the forced internment of Japanese-Americans during World War
II. Korematsu lost his landmark Supreme Court case in 1944, but
never his indignation and resolve. <i>Of Civil Wrongs and Rights</i>
documents the 40-year legal fight to vindicate Korematsu - one that
finally turned a civil injustice into a civil rights victory.
Director Eric Fournier, will be there to answer questions. See the film
on Monday, July 14, at 8pm on the back patio at El Rio, 3158 Mission
Street, San Francisco, 94110. Bring an $8 to $20 donation, no one turned
away for lack of funds. Proceeds benefit NLG-SF; the event is wheelchair
accessible, and there will be drink specials.<br><br>

The next film in this series at El Rio will be <i>Committing Poetry in
Times of War </i>on August 11.<br><br>

Proceeds from the film festival will benefit the National Lawyers Guild
San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. The NLGSF is the largest chapter of
the New York-based National Lawyers Guild (NLG), in existence since
1937. Dedicated to the need for basic change in the structure of
our political and economic system, the NLG is an association seeking to
unite the lawyers, law students, legal workers and jailhouse lawyers of
America, to function as an effective political and social force in the
service of the people, to the end that human rights shall be regarded as
more sacred than property interests. In the Bay Area, the NLG
organizes a number of programs including: Immigrant Rights and
Immigration Court Monitoring; Demonstration Legal Support; Post 9-11
Civil Liberties Assistance; Thomas Steel LGBT Legal Internships; and
