SAN JUAN/Corresponsal EDLP — Las protestas contra el Buró Federal
<br>
de Investigaciones por las citaciones a independentistas <br>
puertorriqueños para comparecer a un gran jurado que investiga al
<br>
Ejército Popular Boricua-Macheteros se llevarán a cabo en Nueva
<br>
York, Pensilvania, Florida, Ohio, Illinois y California, además de
<br>
Puerto Rico.<br>
La protesta de Puerto Rico será el día 10 del corriente y el 11
<br>
serán las manifestaciones simultáneas en Estados Unidos y en todas
<br>
se promoverá la no colaboración con el gran jurado.<br><br>
El anuncio fue hecho ayer en una rueda de prensa en la que <br>
concurrieron las principales organizaciones independentistas del
<br>
país y en la que Doña Elma Beatriz Rosado Barbosa viuda del <br>
Comandante de los Macheteros Filiberto Ojeda- afirmó que esa es
<br>
"una organización legítima" mientras el FBI es el que
"tiene que <br>
estar pensando en largarse de Puerto Rico".<br><br>
Rosado Barbosa indicó además estar al tanto del "Plan
Estratégico <br>
2004-09" del FBI y afirmó que "ese plan estratégico está
delineando <br>
todas las acciones" que esa agencia estadounidense está
tomando <br>
contra los independentistas boricuas.<br><br>
Fue precisamente la noción de que el FBI utiliza el tema de los
<br>
Macheteros para atacar a todo el independentismo lo que motivó la
<br>
reacción unida de organizaciones que en comparten en muy pocas
<br>
ocasiones. De hecho, la mayoría de los líderes presentes se <br>
expresaron sobre ese punto y evitaron contestar preguntas sobre los
<br>
Macheteros, excepto Rosado Barbosa y el héroe nacionalista Rafael
<br>
Cancel Miranda, quien explicó que el problema es que el que admita
<br>
la existencia de esa organización tendría que explicar cómo lo
sabe.<br><br>
"Los Macheteros existen, eso lo sabe todo el mundo", dijo
Rosado <br>
Barbosa, quien sobrevivió en Hormigueros al ataque en el que un
<br>
grupo comando del FBI hirió y dejó morir desangrado a Ojeda.<br><br>
En representación de las comunidades boricuas en EEUU estuvo <br>
Vicente Alba, de Nueva York, quien informó al grupo sobre las <br>
protestas pautadas para el día 11 de los corrientes cuando los
<br>
tres puertorriqueños deberán comparecer ante el gran jurado- no
<br>
sólo frente al tribunal federal en Candem Plaza, Brooklyn, sino en
<br>
Chicago, Cleveland, Orlando, Chicago, Los Angeles y San Francisco.

Alba explicó además que las más recientes revelaciones sobre <br>
detalles relacionados con la muerte de Ojeda levantan todo un <br>
interrogatorio posible contra el FBI y que esa agencia ha decidido
<br>
evitarlo tomando la ofensiva contra todos los independentistas
<br>
puertorriqueños.<br><br>
El Secretario General del Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño,
<br>
Juan Dalmau, tocó también ese punto para afirmar que el Agente
<br>
Especial a Cargo del FBI en San Juan, Luis Fraticelli, fue el <br>
responsable directo del ataque a Ojeda y le tildó de
"criminal".<br><br>
Michael González Cruz, de La Nueva Escuela, dijo inclusive que
la <br>
pesquisa "puede tener que ver" con los Macheteros, pero que
su <br>
verdadero fundamento es un ataque general porque "todavía el
<br>
movimiento independentista es una fuerza que reta la
colonia".<br><br>
En la rueda de prensa participaron también el Movimiento <br>
Independentista Nacional Hostosiano, el Frente Socialista, el <br>
Movimiento Socialista de los Trabajadores, la Coordinadora Caribeña
<br>
y Latinoamericana de Solidaridad y otras organizaciones.<br>

SAN JUAN/ EDLP Correspondent — Protests against the Federal Bureau
<br>
of Investigations, for subpoenas of Puerto Rican independentists to
<br>
appear before a grand jury investigation of the Popular Boricua
<br>
ArmyMacheteros, will take place in New York, Pennsylvania, <br>
Florida, Ohio, Illinois and California, as well as Puerto Rico.<br>
The protest in Puerto Rico will be on January 10; the simultaneous
<br>
demonstrations in the U.S. will take place on January 11. All the
<br>
protests will urge non collaboration with the grand jury.<br><br>
The announcement was made yesterday at a press conference attended
<br>
by the main independence organizations of the country, and during
<br>
which Doña Elma Beatriz Rosado Barbosa, widow of the Macheteros
<br>
commander Filiberto Ojeda, affirmed that it is "a legitimate
<br>
organization," while the FBI "needs to be thinking about
getting <br>
out of Puerto Rico."<br><br>
Rosado Barbosa said she was familiar with the FBI’s "Strategic
Plan <br>
for 2004-09" and affirmed that "this strategic plan is
outlining <br>
all the actions" that this U.S. agency is taking against
Puerto <br>
Rican independentists.<br><br>
This very notion, that the FBI is using the topic of The Macheteros
<br>
to attack the entire independence movement, motivated the united
<br>
reaction of organizations that rarely coincide. In fact, the <br>
majority of the leaders who attended touched on this point and
<br>
avoided answering questions about The Macheteros, except Rosado
<br>
Barbosa and the Nationalist hero Rafael Cancel Miranda, who <br>
explained that the problem is that anyone who admits the existence
<br>
of this organization would have to explain how he knew it.<br><br>
"The Macheteros exist. Everyone knows it," said Rosado Barbosa,
who <br>
survived the attack in Hormigueros when an FBI commando injured
<br>
Ojeda and left him to bleed to death.<br><br>
Representing Puerto Rican communities in the U.S. was Vicente Alba,
<br>
of New York, who informed the group of protests scheduled for <br>
January 11— the day the three Puerto Ricans are to appear before
<br>
the grand jury— not only in front of the federal court in Candem
<br>
Plaza, Brooklyn, but also in Chicago, Cleveland, Orlando, Chicago,
<br>
Los Angeles and San Francisco. Alba explained that the most recent
<br>
revelations on details related to the death of Ojeda raise an <br>
entire set of questions about the FBI, and that this agency has
<br>
decided to avoid answering by taking the offensive against Puerto
<br>
Rican independentists.<br><br>

investigation "may be related to" The Macheteros, its true
basis is <br>
a general attack, because "the independence movement is still
a <br>
force that challenges the colony."<br><br>
Also participating in the press conference were the National Hostos
<br>
Independence Movement, the Socialist Front, the Socialist Workers
<br>
Movement, the Coordinating Committee of Solidarity with the <br>
Caribbean and Latin America, and other organizations.<br><br>
