Over 1,000 activists have been killed in the Philippines since Gloria
Macapagal Arroyo (GMA) took office in 2001. Hundreds more have been
harassed, displaced and/or disappeared. Of these over half came from the
organized opposition movement. 98 of those killed were women - half
murdered while working as GABRIELA Women's Party organizers, one of the
only women's electoral parties in the world.
