</a>Port au Prince, Feb 23 (Prensa Latina) President-elect Rene Preval

has pointed out that Haiti´s Constitution allows for the return home of

former president Jean Bertrand Aristide, who was forcedly ousted in a

US-backed coup in 2004.<br><br>

"The former president´s return to this Caribbean nation cannot be

banned," Preval told media on Wednesday.<br><br>

My stand is simple, he said, regarding Aristide or any legal Haitian

citizen who wants to come to Haiti, under the Constitution nationals do

not need a visa to enter their own homeland.<br><br>

In his first press conference since he won the elections on Feb 7, Preval

confirmed doors are opened if Aristide´s return eventually

occurs.<br><br>

Meanwhile, from South Africa, Aristide expressed his intention to leave

exile, though a final say on the matter is said to rest on the current

Haitian president and other authorities.<br><br>

"The date of my possible arrival in Haiti will result from

consultations among Preval, the United Nations, the Caribbean Community

(CARICOM) and South Africa," Aristide told media in an interview

from Johannesburg.<br><br>

The 55 year-old former president defended his right to return to Port au

Prince, where he plans to be an ordinary citizen and devote himself to

the education sector.<br><br>

"I have the conviction that I can serve my nation without involving

in politics, for the time being," he said. <br><br>
