Support the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement Free the<br>
Land Plan.<br><br>
Help us purchase land in the US South (New Afrika) for<br>
the development of a permanent campsite, retreat and<br>
planning center. <br><br>
Camp Pumziko (poom zee koh)<br><br>
Pumziko is a kiSwahili word that means “to come in<br>
peace, ready to defend”. <br><br>
Camp Pumziko has grown tremendously since 1994. The<br>
progress can be measured by the campers who return<br>
each year and through the dedication of youth that<br>
attended as campers and now return to be counselors. <br><br>
Purpose:<br>
• To give youth from our communities an opportunity to<br>
expand their knowledge and experience in a wholesome<br>
and structured environment geared towards building<br>
character and self-esteem. <br>
• To offer a curriculum that includes Afrikan history,<br>
cultural awareness and physical development. <br>
• To bring youth into contact with adults committed to<br>
being positive role models, thus fulfilling a void in<br>
many of their lives. <br>
• To provide a meaningful alternative to summers of<br>
“just hanging out” with “nothing to do”. <br>
• To teach survival skills for functioning in a system<br>
that has failed our youth. <br><br>
Pumziko Retreat Center<br><br>
Purpose:<br>
To provide grassroots organizations a private space to<br>
plan, coordinate and strategize on next steps toward<br>
building a movement. The Center will contain several<br>
conference and meeting rooms, a kitchen, cafeteria,<br>
rooms for lodging, a research library, and a<br>
communications center. <br><br>
