WOMEN'S PEACE DAY 2004 -The Impact of War and Militarization on Women in
Asia
FRIDAY, JULY 9
7 - 10 p.m.
SF Women's Building
3543 18th St
San Francisco CA

Women are often the most affected and least talked about victims of
war. Find out about women and militarism in Okinawa, Korea
and the
Philippines. Join us for an evening of discussion and
culture.
Highlights include: SPAM Iron Chef (a Spam cook-off to remind
us of
the U.S. military's legacy in Asia) and a keynote speech by
author,
journalist and human rights activist Ninotchka Rosca.

An added treat will be the launching of a book co-authored by Ms.
Rosca along with Professor Jose Maria Sison. Jose Ma. Sison is
known
for having re-established the Communist Party of the Philippines,
one
of the 17 organizations under the National Democratic Front of the
Philippines (NDFP). Entitled "Jose Ma. Sison: At Home in
the
World," the book features a formidable introduction by
Ninotchka
Rosca, a series of conversations between her and Prof. Sison,
photographs cataloguing highlights of Prof. Sison's life, and five
poems by Prof. Sison chosen to provide the emotive aspect to what
is
being discussed in the conversations.

Organized by the Bay Area Women's Initiative for Peace and Justice
in
Asia: GABRIELA Network, Korea Solidarity Committee (KSC),
Nikkeis
