Fidel Castro Congratulates Rodriguez Zapatero<br><br>

Havana, Mar 16 (PL) Cuban President Fidel Castro has<br>

congratulated Spain´s newly elected Prime Minister Jose<br>

Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and expressed support for his<br>

decision to withdraw the Spanish troops from Iraq before<br>

June 30.<br><br>

Considering that decision, Fidel Castro has called on<br>

Rodriguez Zapatero not to forget that under pressure from<br>

Jose Maria Aznar as President of the Spanish Government<br>

thousands of young men from small and empoverished Latin<br>

American countries were sent as cannon fodder to Iraq under<br>

the command of the Spanish Legion.<br><br>

"The Spanish state is therefore responsible for the death<br>

of any of those youths", Fidel Castro holds in a<br>

congratulatory message to Rodriguez Zapatero for his<br>

resounding victory on the Sunday elections.<br><br>

"The world and in particular the people of our hemisphere<br>

will profoundly appreciate everything you can do, even<br>

before taking office, to prevent that another Latin<br>

American life is spared as it happened in the unjust<br>

holocaust of March 11th", the Cuban leader underlines.<br><br>

The death of any Salvadorean, Dominican, Honduran and<br>

Nicaraguan young men deployed in Iraq -he continues- will<br>

be too sad if it is not prevented particularly "when the<br>

political responsibility of the main author of the measure<br>

has been erased by the Spanish people".<br><br>

"Latin American nations have the right, therefore, to hope<br>

for the immediate return of those youths. They don"t have<br>

to wait till June 30th", Fidel Castro points out in his<br>

message.<br><br>

The Cuban president conveys Rodriguez Zapatero his sincere<br>

recognition for having won the confidence of the Spanish<br>

people, who outraged by the Aznar administration´s<br>

political manipulation of the March 11th terrorist attack,<br>

granted him the victory on the Sunday elections.<br><br>

He also expresses in the message his deepest admiration and<br>

respect for the Spanish people for their courage and<br>

heroism shown throughout history.<br><br>

Fidel Castro closes his congratulatory message hoping<br>

Rodriguez Zapatero understands the spirit of his letter and<br>

expressing his sincere respect and consideration.<br><br>
