An Israeli drone operator confesses to Haaretz that the army killed
Palestinian civilians in Gaza with no rules and no fear of accountability,
treating two million people as targets.

A former Israeli air force reserve officer and drone operator has
confessed, in a testimony published by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, to a
routine of mass killing of Palestinian civilians during the genocide in
Gaza, describing an army that operated without rules, without restraint,
and without any fear of accountability. What follows are the hardest of his
own admissions.

The operator, who commanded a drone strike cell attached to ground brigades
inside Gaza before leaving the army in 2026, said he had personally killed
at least 54 Palestinians even before October 7, 2023, among them unarmed
civilians. Of the genocide that followed, he said flatly: "In the first
days, there were no rules." He described a total collapse of any limits on
the killing of Palestinians, in which soldiers were encouraged to kill
freely.

He recounted how Israeli commanders regarded the entire population of Gaza
as legitimate prey. In the words attributed to the culture he served in,
the message was that "you have two million targets" in Gaza, every man,
woman, and child treated as a potential target to be killed.

The operator gave a harrowing account of the killing of paramedics in Tel
al-Sultan, in Rafah, in March 2025. He said the rescue vehicles were
unmistakable, "you could clearly tell these were rescue vehicles even as
fire was opened on them," and that the force on the ground charged the
convoy and opened fire "for no apparent reason." Marked ambulances were
shot at, and the medics were hunted down as they tried to shelter behind
their vehicles. Afterward, he said, Israeli forces buried the bodies of the
slain medics at the scene, ran over the ambulances with bulldozers, and
covered them with earth to conceal the crime.

He also described watching Israeli-backed militias commit atrocities in
Gaza while Israeli forces observed from above and did nothing to stop them.
"They burn rows of houses, and we watch them from above," he said. "Arson,
looting, shooting." The account matches earlier reporting that the Israeli
occupation army has allowed criminal gangs and armed collaborators to
operate in Gaza.

At the center of his testimony was the absence of any accountability. He
described a system in which soldiers killed Palestinians knowing they would
never face punishment, in which the "Yellow Line" marking Israel's firing
zones was pushed hundreds of meters deeper into Gaza without warning
residents, so that civilians suddenly found themselves inside a free-fire
zone they did not know existed and were killed for it. The operator said
the years of what he had done and witnessed had left him with a "moral
injury" and a psychological disorder, which drove him to leave the military
for good.

The testimony, one of a growing number from Israeli soldiers themselves, is
a confession from within the machine of the genocide, describing in the
killer's own words how the mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza
was not the product of error but of policy: no rules, two million targets,
marked ambulances crushed into the earth, and not the slightest fear of
being held to account.
