Ongoing Israeli crimes in Gaza 'a coup' against the agreement: Hamas

Hamas says Israeli attacks on Gaza constitute a “clear coup” against
ceasefire understandings, as continued bombardment, displacement, and
worsening humanitarian conditions raise fears of a deepening catastrophe in
the Strip.

The spokesperson for the Hamas Resistance movement, Hazem Qassem, stated
that the ongoing Israeli crimes, violations, and continued escalation

against the Gaza Strip, exemplified overnight by the bombardment of
residential homes and the displacement of their civilians, constitute a
“clear coup against the understandings and agreements reached under the
sponsorship of the mediators.”

In a statement published on Saturday, Qassem said the understandings
“stipulated the withdrawal of the criminal occupation forces and the
prevention of imposing new realities on the ground,” yet the occupation has
“continued its bombardment, destruction, and incursions into civilian
residential areas in an attempt to impose a fait accompli and tighten the
siege on our people.”

He stressed that what is taking place cannot be considered isolated
violations, but rather a systematic aggression and a blatant disregard for
mediation efforts and guarantees, as well as a continuation of policies of
blockade, starvation, and killing targeting more than two million people in
Gaza.

Qassem also called on the mediators and the parties that witnessed the
Sharm el-Sheikh agreement and the so-called Peace Council to take urgent
action to halt these serious violations

and compel the occupation to uphold its commitments and reverse its
criminal escalations.

On Friday, Israeli occupation forces continued violating the ceasefire
agreement in the Gaza Strip through artillery shelling, gunfire, and
demolition operations targeting multiple areas, resulting in martyrs and
injuries, alongside the systematic destruction of residential units and
mounting warnings of a worsening health catastrophe.
'Miserable' humanitarian conditions

On the humanitarian front, the World Health Organization’s representative
in the Palestinian territories said conditions in the Gaza Strip are
“miserable,”

warning that thousands of wounded Palestinians are not receiving the urgent
and necessary medical care needed to save their lives.

The UN official noted that most of the wounded are in urgent need of
transfer outside the Strip to receive specialized treatment due to the
collapse of the local healthcare system.

The WHO representative further stressed that the immediate entry of medical
equipment and supplies has become an absolute necessity, not only to treat
patients and the wounded, but also to contain the spread of infections,
diseases, and epidemics inside hospitals and overcrowded displacement
shelters.
UN warns of 'ethnic cleansing'

The United Nations has also recently called on the Israeli occupation to put
an end to “acts of genocide” in Gaza
<https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/un-warns-of--ethnic-cleansing--across-palestinian-territory>,
while warning of escalating “ethnic cleansing” across the Palestinian
territory and the occupied West Bank.

In a report published Monday, the UN Human Rights Office said its
investigation into Israeli military operations in Gaza through May 2025
found that the occupation committed “serious violations of international
humanitarian law,” which, in many cases, "may" amount to war crimes and
other atrocity crimes.

The report noted that although the Israeli occupation claimed its military
operation sought the return of captives and targeted military objectives,
many of the killings documented by investigators were deemed unlawful.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, nearly 73,000 people have been killed
since the war began, while several international investigations, including
inquiries by the United Nations and the International Association of
Genocide Scholars, have concluded that the Israeli war on Gaza constitutes
genocide.
