Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the US-Iran
memorandum reflects the failure of pressure and war.
*Key Developments*
- Ghalibaf described the Islamabad memorandum of understanding as an
admission of US defeat.
- He said the agreement was achieved through Iranian resistance, not
pressure or coercion.
- The Iranian speaker reiterated that regional security should be
managed by regional states rather than foreign powers.
*Ghalibaf: MoU Reflects Failure of US Pressure*
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Wednesday that the
Islamabad memorandum of understanding demonstrated the failure of American
pressure policies and marked a political setback for Washington.
Speaking before departing for Azerbaijan to attend the Conference of the
Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States in Baku, Ghalibaf described the
agreement as “tantamount to an admission of America’s defeat.”
“The Islamabad memorandum of understanding is a declaration of defeat for
America,” he said.
Ghalibaf, who heads Iran’s negotiating delegation, stressed that the
agreement “was not the result of pressure or coercion, but rather the fruit
of resistance and the power of the brave Iranian people.”
He added that the outcome showed that negotiations can succeed “when the
other party abandons imposing its will and accepts our rights.”
Addressing the conference in Baku, Ghalibaf further argued that the
agreement proved “the era of imposing will on independent nations is over.”
*War Failed to Change Regional Balance*
Ghalibaf described the US-Israeli war against Iran as an effort to alter
the strategic balance of power in West Asia and force political concessions
from Tehran.
“The war was not only a military confrontation but also an effort to alter
regional power balances and force political submission on Iran,” he said.
According to Ghalibaf, Iran’s armed forces and public resilience frustrated
those objectives and imposed high costs on the aggressors.
“Thanks to the resistance of the armed forces and the courage of the people
in the streets, Iran was able to inflict heavy losses on America and the
Israeli entity,” he said.
He argued that the experience demonstrated that “lasting peace is not
achieved through coercion or humiliation but through dignity, power and
mutual respect.”
*Regional Security and Palestine*
Ghalibaf reiterated Iran’s position that regional security should be
managed by regional states rather than foreign powers.
“Regional security must be guaranteed by the countries of the region,” he
said, adding that countries “that come from thousands of kilometers away
cannot achieve security for the region.”
He also called for security arrangements based on cooperation among
regional states, particularly in the Persian Gulf, and reaffirmed Iran’s
support for reducing foreign military presence in West Asia.
On Palestine, Ghalibaf stressed that no regional security framework could
succeed without addressing the Palestinian issue.
He described support for Palestinian rights as both “a matter of justice
and regional stability” and called for stronger cooperation among Muslim
countries to confront common challenges.
Ghalibaf added that his visit to Baku would provide an opportunity to
discuss the consequences of what he called the ‘Ramadan War’ and its
regional repercussions with parliamentary leaders from across the Islamic
world, while also holding talks with Azerbaijani officials on bilateral
cooperation.
