Palestinians plead for the world to end Israel's siege on entire villages
after the al-Mughayyir raid, as condemnations, even a rare one from
Netanyahu, bring zero action.

The Palestinian plea to the world has widened from the desperate to the
catastrophic. Only weeks ago, Palestinians were begging the international
community to lift a settler siege on a single family's home in the village
of Qusra. Now they are pleading for the world to act to save entire
villages, as Israel's settlers, shielded by its army, escalate from
besieging individual houses to strangling whole communities across the
occupied West Bank.

On Friday, Israeli forces raided the village of al-Mughayyir, northeast of
Ramallah, accompanied by armed settlers who attacked residents and twice
tried to seize their herds of sheep. The Palestinian Red Crescent said one
man was wounded by live fire and two others were beaten by settlers, and
that Israeli troops and settlers delayed the arrival of ambulances to the
wounded. Residents said the soldiers acted to protect the settlers, who
stole around 15 lambs, shot several sheep, and left one wounded. Three
Palestinians were arrested during the assault. Not one settler was detained.

The raid unfolded as a coordinated operation between the army and the
settlers. It began as municipal workers were planting trees along the
village's main road, when Israeli soldiers moved in and fired tear gas to
stop them. Settlers then staged what residents described as a pretext for
theft, one settler filmed leaving a goat at the village entrance so it
could later be claimed that residents had stolen it, justifying a seizure
of their livestock. By evening, around 20 settlers had gathered at the
village's western entrance alongside a military vehicle, driving away
Palestinian cars as the soldiers stood by, before the army launched a full
raid and the settlers set upon residents with the troops' protection.

The al-Mughayyir attack is not an isolated event but part of a systematic
campaign that has placed the village and others like it under what
Palestinian officials describe as a suffocating siege. The Palestinian
foreign ministry has called for urgent international action to end Israel's
chokehold on al-Mughayyir and other West Bank towns, where settlers and
soldiers have sealed village entrances, cut residents off, and turned daily
life into a gauntlet of incursions, arson, and gunfire. What began as
attacks on individual families has become the encirclement of entire
populations.

In a surprising and unprecedented move, war criminal Netanyahu issued a
rare public condemnation of settler violence in the occupied West Bank. The
statement marked a striking departure for a leader whose government is
dominated by the settler movement and its most extreme champions, and who
has spent his career enabling exactly the violence he now claims to
denounce.

Netanyahu's unprecedented condemnation appears driven less by conscience
than by mounting American pressure. For more than two weeks, US officials
have been pressing him directly to publicly condemn settler violence, a
demand he had until now refused, wary of confronting the settlers and his
own far-right coalition partners. His sudden reversal suggests that
Washington's pressure, applied since the siege of the American citizen's
family in Qusra, has finally forced a statement out of him, even as nothing
changes on the ground.

For all the words, the reality remains unaltered. In the al-Mughayyir raid,
as in every other, it was Palestinians who were wounded, robbed, and
arrested, while not a single settler was detained, and none ever is. A week
earlier, the army had issued an order barring Israelis from entering the
area after settlers stoned Palestinian vehicles, yet the order went
unenforced, and the settlers returned under the soldiers' protection.
Condemnations, orders, and statements pile up while the violence proceeds
untouched, because none of it is ever backed by consequences.
