At the United Nations General Assembly debate over a resolution 
condemning the U.S. embargo on Cuba, U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz called 
on his fellow diplomats to “correct the fake news” about Cuba – then 
proceeded to unleash a barrage of it himself. He blamed Cuba for 
supporting terrorism, trafficking drugs and weapons, allowing 
mercenaries to fight in Ukraine, propping up Venezuela, and 
destabilizing the region. There is no credible evidence for anything he 
said. Mid-speech, the Cuban foreign minister cut him off with a point of 
order, accusing Waltz of lying, behaving “rudely and overbearingly,” and 
showing “crude, uncivilized conduct” unworthy of the UN. The rebuke was 
a rare moment when a U.S. diplomat was publicly called out on the 
General Assembly floor.
