GAZA, (PIC)
A UN employee was killed, and five others were injured on Wednesday
afternoon due to an Israeli bombing that targeted the United Nations Office
for Project Services (UNOPS).
The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced in a brief statement
today that one foreign worker from international organizations was killed
and five others were injured as a result of the bombing that hit their
headquarters in the central governorate.
The ministry added that six foreign staff working in international
organizations were transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
The United Nations Office for Project Services is the UN’s arm specialized
in implementing developmental and humanitarian projects, especially in
areas affected by conflicts and disasters.
The Government Media Office (GMO) stated that the targeting of the UN
headquarters by the occupying army is “a blatant assault that amounts to a
complete war crime.”
The Office added in a statement that this crime occurs within the context
of a deliberate policy aimed at targeting international and humanitarian
institutions to prevent them from fulfilling their duty to aid the
Palestinian people, who are facing catastrophic conditions due to the
ongoing aggression.
It emphasized that the assault on UN institutions represents a gross
violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions,
which protect humanitarian and relief workers.
The GMO demanded that the United Nations take a clear and strong stance
regarding this crime and the necessity of immediate action to hold the
occupiers accountable and to stop their ongoing aggression against
civilians and humanitarian workers in the Gaza Strip.
It went on to say, “The continued targeting of relief teams working under
the umbrella of the United Nations by the occupiers represents a challenge
to the international community and puts the world to a real test regarding
its seriousness in protecting international law and preventing war crimes.”
Since dawn on Tuesday, Israel has suddenly intensified its acts of mass
extermination in the Gaza Strip by launching widespread violent airstrikes
targeting civilians, resulting in the martyrdom and injury of hundreds.
The occupation has resumed its devastating war on the Gaza Strip and
violated the ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United
States on January 19.
This came following the government of Benjamin Netanyahu’s evasion of
starting the second phase of the agreement, as it seeks to release more
Israeli prisoners without fulfilling the commitments of this phase,
particularly ending the extermination war and withdrawing completely from
the Gaza Strip.
