*Hamas has warned that the Gaza Strip has entered the “most dangerous stage
of genocide” as the Israeli siege and restrictions on food have caused a
“catastrophic famine” to spread across the Palestinian territory. *

In a statement on Wednesday, Hamas said Israel’s closure of crossings and
blocking of the entry of all humanitarian aid into Gaza, which has been in
place since March, has deprived more than two million people of food and
medicine, leaving 40,000 babies and 60,000 pregnant women facing imminent
death.

The resistance movement said the Israeli regime has turned food supplies
into “a weapon for slow killing” and humanitarian aid into “a means for
creating chaos and looting.”

According to the statement, most of the few aid trucks allowed to enter the
strip have been subjected to systematic “looting and attacks” with the aim
of “engineering chaos and starvation”, exacerbating the humanitarian
situation in Gaza and the suffering of civilians.

Noting that Gaza needs the entry of at least 600 trucks carrying
humanitarian aid and fuel into the strip on a daily basis, Hamas stated
that only a small fraction of this number is actually allowed.

Highlighting the extent of the catastrophe, Hamas said that mothers in Gaza
have been forced to feed their babies water instead of milk.

According to the statement, 154 Palestinians have so far died from hunger,
including 89 children.

The movement also condemned the Israeli targeting of teams tasked with
securing the aid allowed to enter the strip, stating that the regime opens
corridors for gangs to loot the aid under its protection as part of “a
systematic plan to perpetuate famine as a weapon of war.”

Hamas urged international bodies to expose Israel’s policy of “engineering
starvation”, noting that it is a deliberate “war crime”, no less serious
than direct bombardment.

Hamas said the “immediate and unconditional” breaking of the siege and the
opening of the crossings is the “only solution” to end the catastrophe in
Gaza, warning of the serious consequences of any delay for vulnerable
people, including children, patients, and the elderly.

The statement also urged free peoples and human rights and humanitarian
organizations around the world to “escalate” their actions against Israel,
and work towards imposing an independent and secure UN mechanism for the
entry and distribution of aid, away from the control of the Israeli regime.

Israel has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children,
in Gaza, according to the Health Ministry of Gaza.
