Delcy Rodríguez dismantles US narrative: “The looting and plunder will not
return!”

“We will never again be an energy colony of anyone, nor of any foreign
power that dreams of stealing our riches,” the executive vice president
stressed in response to Donald Trump’s threat to impose a naval blockade on
Venezuela.

“Together with President Nicolás Maduro, we will continue defending the
homeland. Looting and plunder will not return,” Vice President Delcy
Rodríguez emphasized. Photo: Telegram ViceVenezuela

Venezuela’s Executive Vice President and Minister of Hydrocarbons, Delcy
Rodríguez, refuted on Wednesday the narrative being promoted by the Trump
Administration, now voiced by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen
Miller, that the nationalization of Venezuelan oil was a theft from the
United States, which they intend to use to justify a naval and oil blockade
of the South American nation.

Rodríguez began by recalling that Venezuela’s first oil company (Petrolia
del Táchira, 1878) was founded with exclusively Venezuelan personnel. That,
she emphasized, has been a “distinctive characteristic of our industry.”

Venezuela: A historic and unrepeatable turning point in the defense of its
sovereignty

The Executive Vice President of Venezuela stated that “the loopholes where
the U.S. managed to control puppet governments to hand over our energy
resources ended with Commander Hugo Chávez” and warned that “we will never
again be an energy colony of anyone, nor of any foreign power that dreams
of stealing our riches.”

According to the version being propagated by Miller, an ultraconservative
Republican who has influenced some of Trump’s most extreme policies, the
United States “created” Venezuela’s oil industry. He described the
nationalization by Caracas as “the largest recorded theft of American
wealth and property,” adding that the “looted assets” were used to “finance
terrorism” and “flood our streets with murderers, mercenaries, and drugs.”

To this, Delcy Rodríguez responded that “what’s interesting about his
statements is that, like a good criminal, he confesses his misdeeds” and
emphasized that “there will be no oil given away or stolen for any foreign
power.”

“We will remain free and independent in our energy relations. Together with
President Nicolás Maduro, we will continue to defend the homeland. Looting
and plunder will not return! Long live Simón Bolívar!” he said in his
statement.

The Venezuelan oil industry was nationalized in January 1976. In 2007,
Commander Hugo Chávez Frías modified the regulations, reaffirming the
principle of national sovereignty over the country’s oil resources.

The Trump Administration’s aggressive escalation against Venezuela over the
past three months has included actions directly targeting its oil sector,
in addition to economic sanctions, such as the theft of Citgo, PDVSA’s
subsidiary in the United States, and the illegal seizure of an oil tanker
yesterday.

On Tuesday, the Republican magnate ordered a naval and oil blockade against
Venezuela, using the same argument that Miller is now trying to replicate.

“The United States will not allow criminals, terrorists, or other countries
to steal, threaten, or harm our nation, and likewise, will not allow a
hostile regime to take our oil, land, or any other assets, all of which
must be returned to the United States,” said Trump, taking for granted that
Venezuelan resources belong to Washington.

This new action to cripple the economy and reinforce the hostile siege
against Venezuela generated immediate rejection from governments,
organizations within the United States itself, legal experts, and members
of Congress, while Venezuela rejected the threat, asserted that PDVSA will
continue exporting oil despite the “illegal blockade,” and announced a
complaint to the United Nations.

Miller, among other dark episodes, is the main mind behind some of
President Trump’s most extreme immigration policies, including the
separation of migrant children and parents at the southern border during
the MAGA leader’s first term, and in this second term, the order to ICE
(Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to intensify raids.

With a political career built on intolerance and white supremacy, he has
been linked to white nationalists and has collaborated with anti-immigrant
hate groups such as the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR)
and the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), both with deep ties to white
nationalist ideologies.
