Israel's bombing campaign in Lebanon has killed at least 136 people over
the last 24 hours, as airstrikes continued on the country's capital into
the morning of 30 September.

Hundreds more have been injured, while nearly one million people have been
displaced by the Israeli aggression. Overnight on Sunday, an Israeli
airstrike hit a multi-story residential building in the Cola neighborhood

of the Lebanese capital, marking the first attack in central Beirut since
the start of this conflict.

“All the people Israel is killing are children and women. They are turning
us into a second Gaza. We tell Israel: we are not scared by you or your
weapons, as long as God is with us,” Sawsan Halawi, a relative of those
killed, told *Al Jazeera*.

Over 1,600 Lebanese

citizens have been killed by Israel since 8 October, including 104 children
and 194 women, and nearly 10,000 have been injured, according to the
Coordinator of the Lebanese Government Emergency Committee and Minister of
Environment, Nasser Yassin.

About 108 were killed in Saturday alone, and officials say that many bodies
remain under the rubble of destroyed buildings.

Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes across Lebanon over the past
week, razing dozens of buildings and killing entire families.

On 23 September, Israel killed 558 people in Lebanon, including 50 children
and 94 women.

Government officials announced over the weekend that about one million
people

– a fifth of the population – have been forcibly displaced by the Israeli
blitz.

“The number of shelters in public facilities has increased to 777 centers,
including public schools, educational complexes, vocational institutes, and
agricultural centers across various governorates. The Ministry of Education
recently announced 120 new schools were available to receive displaced
citizens, with the maximum capacity being reached in public educational
institutions in Beirut and Mount Lebanon,” officials announced.

Nevertheless, the scale of the destruction has forced tens of thousands to
sleep out in the open as government and informal shelters quickly
overcrowded.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in
Lebanon last week said in a statement that “humanitarian needs have reached
unprecedented levels that have exhausted current efforts and resources.”
