GAZA, (PIC)
The spokesman for the Gaza Municipality, Asem Al-Nabih, said that water
reaches only 40% of the total area of the city, stressing that “the
displaced are suffering to access water.”
With the continued Israeli siege on the northern Gaza Strip, the drinking
water crisis has become more serious, as many families in Gaza City
struggle every day to obtain a bucket of water, while accessing safe and
clean drinking water has become the greatest hope that is difficult to
achieve.
Al-Nabih explained in press statements on Monday that the quantities of
water that reach citizens are very limited and do not meet all daily needs.
He pointed out that more than 75% of water wells in Gaza City have been
completely or partially damaged, in addition to the damage of more than 100
linear meters of water networks, making the process of delivering water to
all areas impossible.
Al-Nabih warned that the lack of sufficient water quantities leads to the
spread of epidemics and diseases, especially skin diseases.
In a previous report, the Gaza Municipality said that the Israeli
occupation army destroyed about 126 water and sewage service vehicles,
equivalent to 80% of the municipality’s vehicles, especially those related
to waste collection, sewage treatment and water services.
The Municipality appealed to international organizations and UN
institutions to urgently contribute to solving the water crisis in the
city, by increasing the quantities of fuel to increase wells’ operation
hours in addition to bringing in the necessary heavy machinery and
equipment to maintain water lines and networks.
