/Haiti Action Committee is honored to share this most recent statement
from Fanmi Lavalas Political Organization, the people’s party of Haiti.
In this statement, Fanmi Lavalas outlines the horrific conditions facing
Haitians today. And they sharply criticize the Transitional Presidential
Council and government of Haiti for their failures to address the vital
issues of security, corruption and the health and welfare of the
population. The statement was issued to commemorate Haiti’s first
democratic election on December 16, 1990, in which Jean-Bertrand
Aristide was voted president. /
/We urge you to read this statement and share it widely.

*Fanmi Lavalas, **December 12, 2024 *
Fanmi Lavalas offers our deepest sympathies to the families of the
victims who are now in mourning and despair over the recent massacres
perpetrated by the bandits in Wharf Jeremi during the evening of
December 6ththrough the 7thand in Ti Rivye Latibonit on Tuesday December
10th.
Eight months after the installation of the Transition Council, the truth
speaks for itself: After the obvious failure of the first Transition
government, in line with the population, Fanmi Lavalas has observed how
the Transition Presidential Council (KPT in Kreyol) and this government
continue to be a failure. They have failed because the insecurity has
become worse. Massacre after massacre, kidnapping, corruption, misery
and the high cost of living are causing everyone to live with the
highest level of anxiety.
Eight months after the installation of the Council, the Accord of April
3rd, the roadmap which is the foundation of the transition, has never
been published. The promises made by the KPT and the government to bring
changes to the structures of the state, such as the autonomous general
administration agencies, and the local administration in order to bring
services to the population, have never been fulfilled. Promises have
turned to despair.
While there are more than 6 million people living with hunger, and 1
million people forced to flee their homes living in the streets, the KPT
and the government have shown that they have neither the empathy nor the
capability to respond to the urgent needs of the population.
The recent massacres in Wharf Jeremi and Ti Rivye Latibonit have shown
that the KPT and the government do not have the capability and
willingness to address these problems.
While they are installing their friends as government cabinet
appointees, all attempts to reinforce state structures such as the
Council on National Security and a Secretary for Public Safety to focus
on the issue of Security have been blocked, even though security is the
highest priority of the Haitian people.
Too much blood has been shed!
Fanmi Lavalas declares that it will never accept that bandits are
massacring the people's children while it has a presence in the KPT.
Fanmi Lavalas will not agree to a little group enjoying government
privileges while sacrificing the lives of 12 millions of our sisters and
brothers who end up with nothing while suffering in a country that has
become a hell on earth.
Fanmi Lavalas will not agree to close its eyes to insecurity, corruption
and bad governance while it has a presence in the KPT.
Fanmi Lavalas is refusing to accept the Transition, wanted by the
Haitian people, going from bad to worse while it has a presence in the KPT.
Fanmi Lavalas Political Organization, which has always remained loyal to
the ideals of December 16, 1990, has decided not to support the bad
course of action that the KPT is following in this Transition. /In the
face of this obvious failure, if they are incapable, they must admit
that they are incapable./
The reason that Fanmi Lavalas made the decision to participate in this
Transition was for everyone to come together to restore security, to
deal with the high cost of living and challenge corruption, and to
create the conditions to put the country back on track toward democracy
with free and fair elections.
When Fanmi Lavalas decided to participate in this Transition, it was to
put an end to exclusion, impunity, and for everyone to have justice,
transparency and participation.
