The newly-appointed minister also called on the international community
to help defend Venezuela's right to self-determination.

"The U.S. administration reaffirms its imperialist and neoliberal policy
against the Venezuelan people," Arreaza said during a press conference.

He also said the threats "violate the principles of the United Nations
and the norms of international law."

And he stressed that they were issued by Trump a day after the
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro ratified his willingness to have
talks with his U.S. counterpart, adding "The moment has come for the
international community to stop U.S. aggression against the Venezuelan
people."

Earlier, the Venezuelan minister held talks with 62 representatives of
the diplomatic corps, including the U.S. charge d'affaires.

Arreaza said that during the meeting he received solidarity from
representatives and international organizations who rejected the threat
of military force.

At the same time he called for dialogue with the United States.

Thanking groups and politicians from around the world that have
expressed support

for Venezuela, Arreaza reaffirmed the need for global solidarity against
"neo-colonial aggression."

"As (Simon) Bolivar said, the unity of our people is part of our
destiny. This is a moment of unity. Is the time for unity of the peoples
of the world, especially Our America."

in the face of the military threat posed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

On Friday, Trump said
<http://www.telesurtv.net/english/news/Trump-Rules-Out-Call-But-Keeps-Military-Option-for-Venezuela--20170811-0023.html>
that the United States is exploring “many options regarding Venezuela,
including a possible military option if necessary.”

Given this, “the National Constituent Assembly will act to accompany the
head of state, Maduro, in the defense of our beloved Venezuela,”
Rodriguez said.

The ex-foreign minister also rejected the “cowardly, insolent and vile
threats of the president of the United States against the sacred
sovereignty of Venezuela.”

She concluded that “offenses and aggressions against the highest levels
of government will be repudiated by the anti-imperialist people of
Venezuela."
